Hi,

I was looking at your list and am about to sign up. But, I saw a friend-of-a-friend
on the list, and thought it might not be such a great idea.

The "troll" is tps12. If you look at his postings, he's posted funny, insightful
comments. Recently, he had one rated "troll" (which I disagreed with.)
He also has some rated "flamebait", some of which are rather witty cutting
insults.

Here's his link:
http://slashdot.org/~tps12/

Note: I have no particular attachment to this guy (or knowledge of him)
other than he is a friend-of-a-friend, and I respect my friend's opinions.

Thanks, John.

John, thanks for your input. Sadly, you have been tricked by a very nasty person. Tps12's positive comments are what we call "karma whoring", i.e. an attempt to gain and maintain the +1 posting bonus in order to leverage more effective Troll posts by exposing his Troll posts to a larger audience. The saddest thing about trolls who "karma whore" like Tps12 is that many could have been constructive members of society. Consider this misinformation post in which tps12 willfully posts false information, thereby ruining a Linux story for hundreds of Gentoo users, many of whom wasted their time refuting him.

Tps12 is even "famous" as trolls go, making regular appearances in their little hidey holes. We've caught him, we've nailed him to the ground, and he won't ruin any more discussions.

Please continue to keep the feedback coming. Together, we can stop the few Slashdot trolls who ruin the experience for everybody.

  • Why is Enoch Root on your foes list?

    Or mwalker?

    Or sllort?

    Or ekrout?

Do you just pick people you disagree with? Everyone gets moderated down now and then; that doesn't make them a "slashdot troll".

    You're a freshman in college, I'm betting.

    • Sllort is a vicious troll [slashdot.org].
Mwalker is a crapflooder troll [slashdot.org].
Enoch Root is a troll who links to hateful obscenities [slashdot.org].
Ekrout is an idiot troll [slashdot.org].

And you too are a troll.

Stop whining; you have been silenced.

How come I can still see his posts, then? The people on your list have only been "silenced" from the perspective of yourself and the perhaps 3-5 of your fans who've actually set their foe-of-friend modifier as you suggest. As far as 99.999% of Slashdot is concerned, you are 100% powerless. You can do absolutely nothing for the 99.999% of Slashdot that hasn't bought into your scheme. For that matter, how did you see his post? If he has been "silenced", how are you able to reply to his post? Talk about impotent. Given the glowing success [slashdot.org] (actually, crushing failure) of previous attempts [slashdot.org], I'd say you face a bleak future. For all intents and purposes, Troll Blacklist is dead. Truly an American icon...
      • None of those posts prove anything, IMO.

About half of the people on your friends list, by the way, are trolls who are just trying to tip the scales back (for people who give "friend of friend" positive karma points in their preferences.) I and a few other folks who are obviously not trolls do this to most troll blacklists.

But I'm glad the 40 or so folks who actually are stupid enough to go along with this scheme won't see posts from me anymore. They're probably too fucking dumb to comprehend most of the things I say anyway.

And you still haven't answered my question: are you a college freshman?

  • Since you think so highly of the capabilities of your "anti-troll" system, Mr. Troll Blacklist, riddle me this: are you aware that, according to Rob, about 95% of Slashdot readers do not have an account, and thus are unable to mark you as a friend or set a foe-of-friend penalty? How universally effective is your system when only 5% of Slashdot readers can even benefit from it? Now, assuming that of the 5% of Slashdot readers who actually have accounts, you can perform the Herculean task of getting 10% of those to mark you as a Friend. Thats 0.05% of Slashdot readers. Now, I note that at least 25% of your Fans list are people who are actually on your Foe list, having a laugh at your expense. Now we're down to 0.0375% of Slashdot users that you can benefit. Let's assume that 25% of them actually set a foe-of-friend penalty. I doubt it'd evar be anywhere close to that many, but I'll make a liberal estimate. So, if all those things happen and all those factors work out in your favor, then a total of 0.0094% of Slashdot readers have legimately marked you as a Friend and set the foe-of-friend penalty. I'll be generous to you and round up to 0.01%.

Therefore, comments from people on your foe list will be invisible to one out of evary 10,000 Slashdot readers, and perfectly visible to the other 9,999. Incredible! I'm sure you feel like a big, tough man for hiding a comment you don't agree with from 1 out of evary 10,000th person and leaving it completely unaffected from the perspective of the other 9,999. "Silenced" indeed.

You have GOT to be trolling us. This game is just too stupid to be real. This has to be a put-on. I know that I'm biterizing, but I just can't hold back. Call me a MasterBiter if you must. Ekrout? Tps12? Which of you is pulling the strings of the so-called "Troll Blacklist"?
