Comment The movie is hit and miss (Score 2) 126

This movie is hit and miss. The bottom line for the Blender Foundation is to get people talking about Blender. Nobody really expected their underdog 3d program to be able to produce amazing visual effects. The more of these movies they produce, the more people will be talking about Blender.

However, what they could stand to produce are movies that tell a more compelling story. Is it visually compelling? Sure, but Tears of Steel leaves the audience with all sort of questions about what is happening, who the characters are, what is at stake....and we haven't a clue.

Comment This man is a hero who we should follow (Score 1) 650

Hey guys, we should follow in his footsteps! We could pirate movies and give them away for free to those in the military, but this guy already has it covered. No, we’ll do one better - we’ll pirate movies AND video games, music, and any other easy to pirate goods. But why stop there? We could give away to those with less than fortunate circumstances. We’ll give it away to those with leukemia, the poor, single mothers from abused households, people with clinically diagnosed depression, and the list just goes on and on. We’ll be generating so much good will, no one could possibly be upset with us. Content owners will practically be begging to shake our hands saying, “Wow, how come we never thought of this before?”

Submission + - PS3 Owner Refunded for Missing OtherOS (blogspot.com)

Toxicgonzo writes: Amazon has given a PS3 owner a 20% refund for removal of the PS3's OtherOS feature. The owner cited European law Directive 1999/44/EC — which states that goods must:
        * comply with the description given by the seller and posses the same qualities and characteristics as other similar goods
        * be fit for the purpose which the consumer requires them and which was made known to the seller at the time of purchase

How many other European PS3 owners will follow suit? If Amazon foots the bill to Sony, how will Sony respond?

In their defense (for defense sake, not that I am looking to justify their actions) the army did have a reason to shoot at the van, as is summed up by reddit user Deviltry:

"...They use vans to come up and pick up the bodies, but truth be told they don't care about the bodies, they come to get the weapons/rpg's. We have made it VERY well known throughout the country that they cannot even make it look like they are going for weapons. The problem with this situation is one i've seen personally on multiple occasions... The Van pulls up, takes the bodies of the men, leaves any children/women, and takes all the weapons. Then they take pictures, and blast them across the airwaves saying Americans murdered unarmed women/children."

Mobile Wi-Fi Hot Spot 202

bsharma writes to let us know about a little goodie that we will be able to buy starting May 17: a battery-powered, rechargeable, cellular, Wi-Fi hot spot that you can put in your pocket. "What if you had a personal Wi-Fi bubble, a private hot spot, that followed you everywhere you go? Incredibly, there is such a thing. It's the Novatel MiFi 2200, available from Verizon starting in mid-May ($100 with two-year contract, after rebate). It's a little wisp of a thing, like a triple-thick credit card. It has one power button, one status light and a swappable battery that looks like the one in a cellphone. When you turn on your MiFi and wait 30 seconds, it provides a personal, portable, powerful, password-protected wireless hot spot. ... If you just want to do e-mail and the Web, you pay $40 a month for the service (250 megabytes of data transfer, 10 cents a megabyte above that). If you watch videos and shuttle a lot of big files, opt for the $60 plan (5 gigabytes). And if you don't travel incessantly, the best deal may be the one-day pass: $15 for 24 hours, only when you need it. In that case, the MiFi itself costs $270." The device has its Wi-Fi password printed on the bottom, so you can invite someone to join your network simply by showing it to them.
