Journal TopShelf's Journal: RPG in 2003? Yeesh...

Just last week, about 30% of our IS group got whacked due to slumping business. As a result, my job role is changing (for the better? who can say?)...

Before, I was strictly a systems analyst - focused on ensuring that business requirements were met and coordinating IS activities within my area of specialty. Now, due to the cuts, I'm being asked to help out with some of the programming duties.

I'm glad to help, certainly - but now I've got to learn RPG. Come on, this is 2003! I wasn't thrilled to get into Cobol programming back in 1996, but this is ridiculous...

Of course, in this job market, and given the recent cuts, I guess I'm happy to still be around.
