Comment Re:So long and thanks for the OMG PONIES!!! (Score 1) 1521

Years and years of slashdot reading, and it feels like it may be ending. Or at least changing. Ouch.

I felt the same thing when I opened up slashdot today. Sadness. Over time, my daily rotation of webpages changes...but slashdot was/is the only constant. So much learning one can do in this corner of the internet. I hope that spirit continues when moving forward.

Somehow this has hit me harder than Jobs stepping down. I've been coming to Slashdot for the news/commentary for about 13+ years...and still plan to do so.

Man, it's weird, I've never met Rob or corresponded with him...but it feels like I'm losing a good friend or family member. The internet can be weird sometimes.

Are we talking TV programs/series (TV comedies, talk shows, crime dramas, reality shows, etc) or movies & sports count as well?

I mainly watch movies and sports, but I find time to hit up Dirty Jobs, Science Channel, and Family Guy/Simpsons for a few hours a week.

TV programming: 1-5 hours
TV programming + Sports + Movies: ~20 hours

St. Louis Museum Offers Thrills, Chills, and Lawsuits 140

theodp writes "Despite the whiff of danger, or perhaps because of it, the WSJ reports that the City Museum is one of St. Louis's most popular attractions. Housed in a 10-story brick building, the City Museum shows none of the restraint or quiet typical of most museums. It boasts a five-story jungle gym with two real-life jets kids can climb on, an enclosed Monster Slide that drops riders the length of three staircases, and a rooftop Ferris wheel. Sure, there are the occasional severed fingers and skull fractures, but museum founder Bob Cassilly contends that it is as safe as it can be without being a bore. 'They [lawyers] are taking the fun out of life,' says Cassilly, adding that 'when you have millions of people do something, something's going to happen no matter what you do.'"

AT&T Blocks Part of 4chan 342

holdenkarau writes "Several news sources (Mashable, The Inquistr, etc.) are reporting that AT&T is blocking img.4chan.org in the southern United States. That server is used for the infamous /b/ board (the home of anonymous). TechCrunch calls the decision to block 4chan 'stupid,' noting that they may have 'opened perhaps the most vindictive, messy can of worms.' The Inquisitr suggests that 'The global internet censorship debate landed in the home of the free.' moot (who runs 4chan) asks users to call AT&T, while some others suggest more drastic action (like cutting AT&T fiber)." Update: 07/27 09:23 GMT by T : Readers' comments below suggest that a) the purpose of the block was to curtail the effects of a serious DDoS attack and b) that the block has now been lifted, at least for some regions.
