Well I actually didn't delete my FB account, I just unfriended everyone. Unfortunately for my hobby most of the old forums have migrated to Facebook pages so I need an account to keep up with them. It's also useful to look up some restaurants and other businesses which seem to only have FB pages these days.

After seeing current events and politics bring out the absolute worst in my friends and family (people on both sides of the spectrum), I decided that I really didn't want to be exposed to it anymore so I just unfriended them all. I also installed a plugin that blocks FB's suggested pages and trending news. Best thing I ever did. Now that I don't have to read all that crap I'm a much happier person. I still keep in touch with most of them via other means which I honestly think has lead to healthier more civilized conversations. Social media really does seem to bring out the absolute worst people.

I've met him in person. He's every bit of a twat waffle as he's depicted in King of Kong. Arrogant and living off holding a record (at least at the time) on a 40 year old game long after people had stopped caring. It was actually kind of sad, like a former child star trying to cash in on a 40 year old show in order to stay relevant. I guess he has money due to his family's hot sauce business so he can afford to do this. Oh and his hot sauce was terrible.

This! Hot Desking, Hotel Desking, whatever you want to call it is the worst concept business has created in the past 20 years. Couple that with an Open Office plan and it's amazing that anyone can get any serious work done. The only people I've ever seen that like this are the office gadflies that walk around and talk to people all day but never do any actual work. When my company decided that they were looking to do this, they sent out a survey asking us our opinion on it. The response was overwhelmingly negative (like 85%+ did not want it), but then at the next department meeting they said that due to all the benefits they were going to do it anyway. I knew something was up when all the new furniture started coming into the building before they even sent out the fake survey.

I'm lucky enough to be in a lab that still has its old cubicles because we told them we needed the for various pieces of equipment. We have so many people trying to squat in our lab now because they can't stand the new office layouts (we kick them out because it's supposed to be a secure area).

At my company we're switching to OpenShift which sucks way worse than VMWare and requires way more servers to run, but we refuse to be shafted by Broadcom.

My VERY large company is just now pushing Windows 11. I've been the poor fool responsible for making sure the change over has gone smoothly. The funny thing is that I don't even run Windows 11 at home, my computer is too old (i7-970). I've been rocking dual Win 10/Linux for almost 14 years now (Ubuntu then Manjaro).

I've had this issue. I use Google Maps with Apple Play for navigation and like you said, it's fine on most major roads but if you get off the beaten path it's not so great. In my state they seem to have an aversion to putting up speed limit signs so you either have to have saw the single one they put up five miles back or guess. I'll be going whatever speed Google Maps says is the local speed limit only to find that I've been doing 35 in a 45 or 40 in a 55 (the real speed is always much higher). I think GM is right about 70% of the time which is fine for what I'm doing but would be terrible for something that was government mandated. I can't even imagine what would happen if it was hooked into my insurance somehow.

For me the sweet spot for graphics was was the PS2 or GC. Although I do remember seeing Sega Virtua Tennis on the DC when it came out and I thought that graphics couldn't get any better than this.

Have you ever wondered about those things? We generally keep the house around 74 in the summer and 64 in the winter which I think is a pretty good compromise (a small fan in the summer and warm clothes in the winter make it comfortable), yet we always get 'average' on those ratings. I know our neighbors keep their house so cold in the summer that they don't need to close their refrigerator and so hot in the winter that they actually wear summer clothes (they have money to burn so they don't care). I always wonder if we're being compared to vacant houses or if it's all just made up to guilt you into using less electricity. How would you know?

You would think so, but no. I ordered some holiday lights off Amazon and when they came the box had BROKEN LIGHTS written on the side. I didn't even bother opening the package and immediately returned it and didn't order another set. Amazon doesn't care.

I work for a Fortune 20 company and my major assignment for this year is to help switch us off VMWare by year end. I think Broadcom thought they could bend us over and we'd take it because it would be too difficult to migrate off VMWare, but they miscalculated badly. In fact my company is migrating away from ALL Broadcom products by year end. I wonder how many other companies are doing the exact same thing?

Yep because I never stopped playing with them. They're still setup in my game room in fact. Never had to replace any caps, they're built really well.

I have a soft spot for the Atari 400 as it was my first computer. My parents got it for my older brother to help with school work, but he didn't want to have anything to do with it (he still doesn't like computers), so I latched onto it and thus began my lifelong love of computers. Eventually I graduated to an Apple IIe and then a 486, but I still have my Atari 400 and IIe and use them to this day. The 400 was a nice little computer, but due to the low amount of RAM (16K unless you got a dealer to upgrade it to 48K like the 800 had) it was stuck with cartridge software and cassettes as disk based programs needed 24K min (I guess 8K must have been needed for the DOS). The keyboard wasn't the worst, but you really didn't want to type long programs or documents on it. Still, it was a great starter computer and had some really nice games.

I found a prototype for this back in the late 90's and then an earlier version after that. It's a great game that should have been released as a swan song to a great console. There were a number of good games that were 100% completed that never got released towards the end, and a few that probably shouldn't have (Ikari Warriors anyone?).
