Gig employees are free to terminate their association with the company offering gig work at any time they desire.

You may say, "Oh but the gig employee can't get any other work and are forced to work for these companies." That's not the same as the serf. The serf refusing to work for the feudal lord could be punished by the lord in any way the lord saw fit, up to and including death. The gig employee just ceases earning income.

The nature of your question is about liberty. Liberty has it's ups and its downs but the freedom to make bad choices, and not be punished for them by others, is something that must be permitted if you want a society of high liberty. A gig employee, unquestionably, has a vastly higher level of liberty compared to a serf.

Maybe, maybe not, Trump is not running unopposed for the 2020 Republican nomination for President. In fact, there's 1 delegate allocated to Bill Weld (who ran as Gary Johnson's VP in 2016). In addition, Joe Walsh and Roque De La Fuente are also running for the nomination. They probably don't have a chance of winning but that doesn't mean there's no reason not to campaign. Does Trump need rallies for the primary? He doesn't need them for him to win the primary however they are advantageous for energizing Republican voters and boosting support for Senate and House candidates that are supportive of his policy stances and there's no question that Republican primaries are seeing record turnouts.

From age 50 to 75 the CDC recommends a colonoscopy every ten years, a CT colonoscopy every five years, or a sigmoidoscopy every five years. That's under the assumption that you don't show signs that you might have colo-rectal cancer. Have a positive test, which usually means polyps are detected, and you will be recommended to have the procedure done more frequently as long as you have polyps to ensure that they continue to be benign and not malignant. Got a clear colonscopy at 50 and you hit your deductible at 58? Might as well get it done two years earlier and not have to pay out as much. You may not hit your deductible in two years.

Alternatively, I could say you're full of shit by reporting the incorrect figures for the US (the CDC had 80 cases 9 deaths on their website for 11.2%). You can look at the WHO reports I linked to. They're daily so obviously the March 3rd WHO report doesn't contain new cases that were identified prior to the data being collected for the report. Realistically, I'll just say that you're making spurious conclusions on less than 100 cases. For a nation the size of the US (327.2 million)you would need 9,604 cases to have a 1% margin of error. 80 cases, like the CDC reports, is a 11% margin of error and since most of those cases probably haven't ran their course we're probably talking somewhere around a 15% margin of error (43 cases). The US mortality rate is obviously unreliable as the margin of error says we could have anything from a 0.2% to a 22.2% for the 11% margin of error to less than 0.1% to 26.2% for the 15% margin of error.

All of that? It's there to show how pointless and dumb it is to make any predictions based on what the US has experienced.

The simple fact is that China had implemented quarantine protocols across Hubei and when dealing with a large number of disease cases quarantine almost certainly means zero medical care. This is not an expectation we would have across most countries unless the disease gets out of control.

As far as nations go, South Korea (4,812 / 28 / 0.5%), Italy (2,036 / 52 / 2.5%), and Iran (1,501 66 / 4.3%) are the only other countries to lower the margin of error. Korea and Italy are around a 2% margin of error while Iran is around 3%. The population outside of Hubei (0.8%) is enough cases to have a 1% margin of error. 1.8%, if you would kindly note, is within the margin of error of those individual countries I listed.

Further, we don't have data on the number of undocumented cases. Many of these will be cases with minor or no symptoms and the most of them will not be fatal. This would only serve to push the mortality rate of the disease down lower.

The Chinese response has effectively been to let the virus burn itself out. That implies that 3.4% is mortality rate when denied healthcare and the rate would end up lower in areas with better health systems or better access to care. It's more likely to be a worst case figure with most nations seeing mortality rates much lower.

Do keep in mind that as of March 3rd the number of cases worldwide were 80,304 cases with 2,946 fatalities in China (3.6%) with 10,566 cases in the rest of the world amounting to 166 deaths (1.5%). The Hubei region of China, where the toughest quarantine measures were imposed, has seen 67,217 cases with 2,834 deaths (4.2%) while the rest of China accounts for 13,087 cases with 112 deaths (0.8%). https://ancillary-proxy.atarimworker.io?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.who.int%2Femergencie...

Lazarus's poem was never relevant to the message behind the Statue of Liberty. She was an activist trying to help Jewish immigrants who had been fleeing anti-Semitic persecution in Europe. It was a commissioned poem for a fundraising effort by a private entity helping to raise funds for the pedestal. The significant portion of funding for the pedestal came from private sources rather than government sources and most public funding only came about when other cities (than New York City) began to express interest in funding the pedestal for the statue's relocation. It never received federal funding. It was only after campaigning by Lazarus's friend that the poem was put on a plaque which hangs in the statue's museum. Everything involving the poem was a private effort and never reflected public policy regarding a stance towards immigration.

You may wish for it to be a desirable ideal but it's worse than the ideal expressed by the statue itself because it's inherently defeatist in contrast with the message presented by the statue.

There is a reason for each piece of symbolism with statue. Libertas and Columbia were the two figures that could have been used for the statue due to their prevalent in American iconography at the time. Columbia is uniquely American like Britannia is British and Marianne is French. Using Libertas meant the statue was not a reflection of a single nation, Libertas, being the embodiment of liberty, was significant as the French had just deposed Napoleon and installed a democracy while the Americans had just gone through a bloody civil war which ended slavery and bought liberty to the masses.

Her seven pointed crown was selected to avoid stirring up southern resentment as the original plan was for a pileus to top her head which is a symbol of emancipated slaves. The homage to this was instead done as a broken chain at her feet which was obscured by the robe. The crown is supposed to be a halo that points in seven direction representative of the seven seas, pointing in all directions. It's imagery is similar to that of the sun shining across the world or in this case the idea of Libertas, liberty, being cast on the world which serves as the counterpoint to the torch which is an icon of progress.

Libertas's robe was also a conscious choice. She had been used many times as a symbol for revolution and by using a flowing robe she upholds better the ideal of liberty via peaceful democracy over liberty via violent revolution. This is then reinforced by her holding the tablet in her left hand as a sign of the rule of law.

The Statue of Liberty says from the US grows the tree of liberty and Libertas is there to show you the way. It was as much a symbol of the bond between France and America as it was saying to other nations across the world to embrace democracy. By embracing the ideal of Lazarus's poem you are expressing defeatism at the ideal of bring liberty, democracy, and governments of the people to the world at large by instead just taking the "masses".

Early in WW2 the Germans utilizes radio signals to pinpoint bombing of British cities. It was remarkably effective in comparison to bombing done by the RAF which was based on aerial reconnaissance. The British figured out the German systems (Knickebein, X-Gerät and Y-Gerät) and the jamming was so effective that the Luftwaffe bombers ended up bombing well off target in areas where no damage was sustained. The Most Secret War by R.V. Jones is a great summary of those efforts and it details how German methods of operation made it much easier for the British to predict, detect, and counter those systems. The British had Y-Gerät solved for the first time the Germans used it.
