Comment Work is different now (Score 1) 181

The numbers don't surprise me. If my industry is representative of employment in general, employees are much less likely to bond over beers after work now - for one thing there is more remote work and therefore less opportunity to go out and rather more worrying for the drinks industry, gen z just don't go for killing their brain cells in the same way

There must be a fairly direct link between the number of AI generated action figure images produced this week and the amount of carbon in the atmosphere (or smog from coal-fired power stations). Using the common measure of "disability-adjusted life years" (DALYs), it should be possible to see the human cost of each new AI meme in future. Government departments will be asked to issue warnings of new memes in the same way they would for dangerous heatwaves or tropical storms!

Comment America is going backwards (Score 1) 126

It's surely only a matter of time before Trump realises that the number of people trying to reach America could be matched with the number of Americans needing maids and servants and perhaps some indentured servitude could be a way to keep MAGA voters onboard (definitely not slavery, no sir)

Comment Re: How would that work? (Score 1) 47

When you're a powerful man and the stock market hangs on your every word it's a problem when you're also a thin-skinned egomaniac given to impulsive actions. Any smart bot could be reading tweets, performing some sentiment analysis and then putting a bet on. Given that DJT is chronically online, it would have ample training material
