When I listen to NPR on the radio, I hear get to them list their corporate sponsors. Even if a specific product is not being pushed, that sure sounds like a form of advertising to me.

Evidently, the US Army Captain's Career Course, which I understand is required before promotion to that grade

Close, but not quite.

Students at the course range from 1st Lieutenants who are very close to promotion to mid-grade Captains (2 years or even more time in grade).
This is especially true for reserve component officers (Army Reserve & Army National Guard). This is due to funding levels that can change annually, number of slots to the school, ability of officer to attend due to work, family, etc.

I really doubt that they have time to add that to the curriculum. Yeah, it would only be a 1 hour block, but it probably would best be handled through many of the informal start-of-day discussions that happens in the small group phase of the course. Assuming they still have a small group phase portion of the course.

I went to the resident active-component course as a Army National Guard officer many, many years ago.

I actually wonder how long before even AWACS are unviable (at least the manned variety), even 30,000 is not safe over a war zone anymore,

The answer is that they don't. The E-3 Sentry doesn't have to fly over enemy troops in order to be effective.

Wikipedia states that the E-3 Sentry's RADAR has a range in excess of 250 miles. So, it stays well behind the forward lines out of range of enemy ADA and with plenty of protection in front of it.

It is also true that Washington's actions were BEFORE the United States Constitution was written, much less signed and ratified.
He also reversed himself in that, initially, he did not want to do those things. He also had considerably more power available to him as the military leader of the Colonial army or at least those who believed differently did not have the ability to challenge him and/or obtain redress through the court system that exists today.

This is a book "Seizing the Enigma: The Race to Break the German U-Boat Codes, 1939–1943" that discusses something very similar. The Allies were able to answer a lot of questions about the Enigma by putting together seeming disparate pieces of information.

It's an interesting read, if history is your thing.

One thing I've found with using rust over dynamic languages, even for small admin-scripty-like things, is that when my code is written in rust, if it compiles then it works exactly the way I intended it to. Yes, it takes longer to write something in rust than say powershell, but it takes a hell of a lot less time to debug.

That's interesting.

I've always felt the same way about Ada.

But now the Trump administration wants to undo an Obama-era regulation designed to make a wide array of specialty lightbulbs more energy efficient.

No.... 'Regulations' do not 'make' lightbulbs more energy efficient. The only thing regulations can do is to "require that specialty lightbulbs be manufactured to be more energy efficient in order to be legally sold."

Critics say if the reversal is finalized it will mean higher energy bills for consumers and more pollution.

Possibly. But let not ignore the probability that the newer light bulbs will also be considerably more expensive for consumers and, at least in my experience, they do not last nearly as long as advertised. Will the net result be more, less, or equally expensive to the consumer? That would be a question worth answering.

I listen to NPR on a regular basis because I once heard a smart man recommend that people should get news from all across the political spectrum. NPR's reporting has a definite bias to the left which they try to conceal by what they report and they report it.

No, but murder victim's sketchy ex-boyfriend who did DV once to someone else is not enough to get a search warrant or require him to provide DNA.

I would still say that it is not necessary to jump straight to a search warrant or try to do DNA comparison.
How about.. talking to him / her? If a suspect is willing to provide information about their location, let them. There is also the possibility they may have information they don't already know about the victim that would be useful.

The investigators should be looking for evidence that excludes a suspect as well as evidence that connects a suspect.
If the suspect was out of town on a work trip or vacation or whatever... that would mean that they need to look elsewhere.
No search warrant or DNA required for that one.
