Experience tells me most users are going to switch to another centralized platform because it's not YouTube and it's not Vimeo but they can put an end to this cycle by hosting videos on federated FOSS like PeerTube. Yes, those can go commercial as well but for the bigger concerns, it's not hard to setup an instance and host all of your own video.

Maybe they're going by user numbers? Hard to believe each of the poll options has more than a million users. Slashdot unfortunately is overrun with trolls so I tend to spend less time here than ever. Polls like this as it's discussion section just confirm my decision but I'm glad someone mentioned what I consider the most promising kind of social networking.

as a kid, i built one of dave mao's presses. it's deceptively simple for what it does.

it's basically a stack of belleville washers leveraging a pair of tongs.

you can create different pressures depending on the way you stack the washers, which are essentially springs.

i didn't have the cash for the diamonds, but it worked. if i kept it, i could probably buy diamonds for it.
