Journal SolemnDragon's Journal: Now i am 29 17

i had a birthday!

my tiara broke. :(

it was in some respects a quiet one. Birthday, i mean. All of my tiaras are of the silent-but-screamingly-sparkly type. I got to see pancho and trmj and blinder, and had a margarita, it's rare that i get to drink because i have to be careful what meds i take. So i really enjoyed it.

i have been ipodded! (pronounced: "ih-pidd-idd.")

I have to admit, i find it very intuitive to use and am quite smitten with the darned thing. Itunes set up was pretty easy under windows, and i managed to get all 8 days worth of music crammed onto the thing with room to spare. What i'd REALLY like to see is more crossover between ipod functionality and calendar &ct, so that i can use it instead of a handheld.

i CAN'T live without the handheld. Gods help me when i get a cellphone, too.

my ipod is in colour!

I did not hurt any more of my toes. Blinder got set on fire once, and it took four people to put out the cake. I think maybe the candles sticking horizontally out of the sides of the cake may have been a BIT too much, in retrospect, but hey, it's a birthday.

Trmj charmed all of us by making a miniature treasure chest out of a chocolate tin- and putting solemnsafe chocolates inside! That's just amazingly thoughtful and i was (and am) delighted.

i have a new tortilla press. It works great on birthday candles, too.

Blinder's zippo needs a new flint now.

Aside from all that, things were pretty tame- i also got a copy of the great muppet caper, which is a fabulous movie, and have to finish watching it tonight.

But best of all was the company, and the not working, and the trip to the apple store. And all the phone calls and emails- that was splendid.

I had a good birthday and now i am 29, and very very tired from staying up too late. i have to go to the doc in a few hours, more on that later.

We now return you to your regularly scheduled lives.

  • I'm going to need a new iPod soon I think, but I don't think Apple make them big enough - 60GB is just too durn small I've found. (I'm edging up towards 60 days of listening pleasure!)

I sold my old 20GB iPod on eBay last week. I'm amazed at how much I got for it - damn I love eBay! 8-)
    • I've got a 4GB Mini, and it's plenty. This, and I have over 12,000 tracks ripped. The Mini holds about 800 in AAC format.

The secret is synching to smart playlists. One of my playlists is a selection of everything ripped in the last 30 days, and another is least recently played. And so forth. Works quite well, and I prefer the smaller form factor of the mini.

I'd only get the 60 if I wanted to display photos on it, which I don't.

      • What works for you doesn't work for me. I want the ability to carry around as much of my library as possible. One reason I went for the iPod instead of a "regular" mp3 player in the first place was the storage. I don't want to be out somewhere and wanting to listen to a particular band/podcast/whatever only to find that it wasn't in the playlist I synched.

Horses for courses and all that...

  • I'm sorry I didn't get to call or write, or smash undead bad guys with you last night, but I'm honestly so busy lately, I can't see straight.

Set blinder on fire again for me. He likes it o_O.
    • Ya. I too wish you a belated happy birthday and give you this shiny new virtual tiara, made of the finest imaginary rubies, sapphires and genuine zirconium. /bows

It even comes with a built-in flamethrower!

      Cheers,

I had so much fun at 29 that I decided to turn 29 again, and again, and again, and again, and again... :-P

  • Did I tell you that I had a dream about you (Sol) the other night?

We were teenagers, I think.. about the same age in the dream, which isn't accurate since I've got just about 7 years on you. Anyway, you were staying the night (platonically). You had the short hair.

And I was teaching you how to play Dungeons & Dragons. We had a discussion about whether we were going to use the D20 rules. Or D12, D10, D8, D6, etc... Which doesn't even sound strange unless you're an RPG geek, and know what D20 is in t
  • or Gratulerer med dagen which means the same around here.
  • I celebrated my birthday today. It was pretty quiet: I had some tea & cake with a few friends (who had been away for most of the Summer, which is also one of the reasons why we didn't celebrate my birthday earlier), and then we played D&D (without any Dragons, though) for several hours.

I didn't get an ipod for birthday, but I did get a small bag of green tea with cardamom. I'm drinking it right now; it's great!

  • I'm sorry that your tiara broke, but you still had a wonderful day.

It was a most amazing day for me as well. I became a great aunt for the second time. My nephew's wife gave birth to a bouncing baby boy.

Now I will never forget the dragon's birthday.

    ^_^

  • So whaddya know? You birthday is one day before the birthday of Sluggy Freelance. Wow!

    (Sluggy turns 8 today! )
  • Did you ever see the movie "Miss Congeniality"? It takes place at a beauty pageant, which of course features a tiara. The cool thing about this tiara, though, was that it featured an explosive device! Think of the uses!

    Happy happy birthday!
  • I turned 29 like, so, like almost 8 months ago. You're SOOOOO begind the times.

But, in all seriousness. happy B-day. If this one didn't work out, deside on a weekend about 3 months down the line and devlare that your birthday, too. Repeat until you are satisfied that your 29th birthday is all it could be.

  • You are Guinea Pig #4 in my alpha testing of the new and improved Slashdot Journal Grabber, and I think it's really bad form that I didn't congratulate you on this astronomically significant occassion. Happy 0x1Dth birthday!:)
