Journal SolemnDragon's Journal: Episode's up! 12

The 4th of July episode was, in fact, written on the fourth.

I have witnesses.

Sadly, i did not have witnesses to type it for me, so it's finally up.

*sigh*

http://www.solemndragon.org/

The good news is that i've actually worked out a set time to work on this stuff, AND have half next week's already typed. Thanks for bearing with me during the last few weeks; now i shall commence with the weekly again!

Update: A few additional details. Those of you who have linked to me on your blogs, sigs, and journals- thanks. It's working. Even with my lack of updates, you have been referring at least 20 visitors a day. The site itself is still averaging 2000-3000 visits a month, I'm very grateful that y'all have personally had a hand in making my site a small 'success,' and i'm poking blinder's fansite to work with me on a giveaway in response.

Cause that's pretty nice.

Those who found me by searching google, thanks. Except for those who found it by searching for, "handkerchief chloroformed her," "candy corn for the evil," and, "chloroform potato." You scare me.

  • Er, that is, I witnessed the writing. It really did happen on the 4th.

I am not being paid or compensated in any way, by the word or otherwise, to deliver this message to you, the reader, from me, the writer.

Just ask blinder, he's the one writing the che... er.. he was there too!

On a completely different topic, I have a job interview Tuesday night in your town. The job I had didn't work out, due to several reasons, the big one being that it aggrivated my bad leg to the point that I couldn't walk for
    • So, i guess while you're between jobs is a good time to invite you to a feed?

      Say, next weekend?

And yes, you're taking food home with you.

I'm thinking either a risotto or a quinoa pasta casserole, so think about what you'd like and get back to me.

Hehe, what I want isn't Solemn-friendly (A big bowl of ramen and a basket of the pillsbury cheese rolls, yep I'm a cheap date), but I can make that myself as soon as I get my own place.

I have yet to dislike anything that you've recommended so far though, so I'm up for anything you're up for making, just remember my one requirement: I get to do most of the clean-up! (Yes, it increased from my last demand of helping with the clean-up)

Wicked: It's held together by science!

I'm afraid the first time, I somehow read that bit as Wicked floating the science cake above her head :)

Cool! There must be quite a few of us linking you! That, or s

Referer logging [wired.com]: when someone comes to your page by clicking on a link, their web browser will (usually) tell your server what URL they came from in the HTTP Referer header field. If they came by searching for 'solemndragon' on Google, for example, you'd get an entry something like 'http://www.google.com/search?q=solemndragon' in the 'referer' field of your server logs.

      • Which is also how you find out whose sigs are sending people there. And that people are looking for the search string, "Can I freeze a whole potato?" among other things.

I suspect they're just winding you up with that one, since solemndragon isn't among the results for that search as far as I can see...

This, of course, is the downside to referer logging: you can't actually trust the values logged! There was a trend a while ago of "referer spamming", in which spammers would request pages from your site g

          • Oh, that still happens. There are sites that are vigourously doing that to my site, a couple of sales sites seem to have picked my site as one for their daily list. It's kinda annoying, really, but i'm starting to recognise the repeat offenders. It's been... educational.
      • That appears to presume that you run your own server. How do you do this for something hosted on e.g. Blogspot?

Then it gets more difficult - if Blogspot won't give you access to your site's logs, usually you have to use some Javascript trickery. One common trick is to build an image URL on a site you (or a friend) controls, like "http://www.example.com/log.gif?referer=www.solem n dragon.org/" - there are a couple of sites out there offering this as a service in itself, that you use their script then get

  • Sometimes the only way to procure candy corn for the evil is by having to resort to chloroforming potatoes. And that is a prefectly fine and evil way to do so, no?

*sigh* It's just not easy being evil, especially if you like candy corn. I mean, it's can't be easy for people that are. Yeah.
