Comment Bring ebola here! (Score 1) 47

Excellent suggestion! To do medical research on horrible, deadly diseases affecting other countries, bring the pathogens to the US so they can be studied here. There's hardly ever been a lab leak of deadly virii, right? Even better, when (or if) a cure is found, that can be sold back to the originating country because they won't have the infrastructure to develop/produce it themselves!

Comment Goes against government policy (Score 1) 95

Anything environmentally-friendly-related is unsupported by government policy, and shows a disrespect for the President. Withdraw from climate accord, restart coal-fired power plants, and as for oil: "Drill, baby, drill!" We've had plenty of demonstrations of the current leadership 'influencing' those who go against their policies, including exclusion from any government contracts. I really can't see any US-based business investing in it, too risky. That's really a shame, because the climate damage will kill us if the current administration doesn't do it first.

Comment If you trust your government ... (Score 1) 67

If you trust your government (or authority figures) and do as you're told, it's not much of a stretch to believe what the machine tells you, so I'd expect something like that in autocratic societies... sorry, no statistics to back that up, just opinion. If you have less trust in your authority figures, or a history of being lied to, I'd expect you to doubt AI as readily as you doubt everyone else. For those technically qualified to know what goes into AI, I'd expect the trust factor to be close to that for a calculator: trust the calculations, but not the projections or summations.

The obvious reason is that the mice were getting too smart, but after this he'll be smarter than they are (possibly). There really IS a strategy behind some of his moves!
