Comment Re:US Grants are being Misallocated to Non-science (Score 2) 124

They are not science and I said arguably improve equity and mental health because that is their only argued purpose and actually according to many people they do not even do those and in fact can make it worse. There will never be any technological advances from those studies. To your last question, if robots were doing everything for me I'd gladly focus my time on something separate from what I currently do for work.

Comment US Grants are being Misallocated to Non-science (Score 2) 124

There has been a shift in the US to consider Social Science' a science. This has caused a massive amount of funding to be diverted from scientific programs in physics, chemistry, and biology to programs that study gender, race, sexuality, and other social topics. Advances in STEM fields research advances in technology while the social sciences arguable only improve equity and mental health.

Rivian is another one of those permanently losing money companies. I'm extremely skeptical that they will be able to survive long enough to implement everything they planned. Their total # of vehicles sold are actually expected to decline in 2025. While they do have some backing from VW and Amazon who might want to pour money into the fire, the time to create their own silicon, get out new vehicles with the new silicon, then test those vehicles is easily a 5 year process.

1100 new features!!... I'd rather eliminate AI from the productivity suite rather than pay for it. It seems to be creeping in anyways even through we have never paid for additional copilot features. Maybe someone who actually uses it knows, but I assume you start using it then it tells you need to upgrade to do the thing you actually wanted it to do?

Oligopolies are not monopolies. For a monopoly there has to be a barrier to entry for other participants. A high market share just means you are doing things better than everyone else. Literally every industry has many competitors, take car companies as one, there are dozens just in the US alone and thousands if you expand world wide.

Comment Re: A troubling trend. (Score 1) 116

You simply don't know how the government works. Monopolies are already illegal and we already have anti-trust laws. Lina Khan was simply an ignorant person who was bad at their job. This was evidenced by blocking a merger, then the company that tried to merge going bankrupt. She literally killed businesses.

Comment Re: A troubling trend. (Score 1) 116

There isn't one example because there are literally millions, its a fact of supply and demand. This happens with every product and in every industry. It's a simple math equation, while prices are high -> build more -> profit. Anyone moving too slow won't be able to profit before the shortage is over with. Capitalism gives profit to those who move the fastest, which is exactly what you want to prevent shortages.
