I'm at a hotel in Fargo, ND, and the internet connection's great. The peak transfer rate I've seen was 1.2MB/s, and it's sustaining at 810KB/s, right now. (Downloading a few ISOs, and grabbing OpenBSD via rsync.)

I've done something few people get to do in their lives: Download at a high rate not limited by my pipe, but by the pipe of the server at the other end. And you know what? German servers are much, much faster. FreesBIE will be done after about 20 minutes of downloading.
