Journal Shadow Wrought's Journal: CNN Just Confirmed it, Chivalry is Dead 7

***UPDATED***

JesseL was kind enough to point me to an article which provides a couple few other details- such as the pr0n was played between 1:30 and 2:30 in the morning, while the door kicking didn't occur until 11:30 that morning! So much for the slant that he was rushing in to rescue her (unless the nighbor is lying, but there doesn't seem to be any reason for that).

So while I'll leave what I originally wrote, charges just made a whole lot more sense.

A man hearing what he thought was a rape in an upstairs apartment grabbed an heirloom sword, kicked in the door, and tried to rescue the victim. Only it wasn't a rape. It was a pr0n DVD. And now, the would be hero faces several misdemeanor charges which could add up to 33 months of time. I can understand him paying for damage to the door, since it was a mistake, and someone has to account for it, but criminal charges strike me as over the top, since HE WAS TRYING TO STOP A RAPE IN PROGRESS!!! Now we all know that it wasn't, but he was acting on what he thought was true at the time.

Now maybe what he heard should have reasonably been interpreted as either consensual or pr0n, but since the neighbor told police he could guess which part the guy mistook, I think there's likely ambiguity there.

  • If he was trying to stop a rape in progress, he was 10 hours late [jsonline.com].
    • Look at that dude's eyes, man. He probably rubbed one out, then fell asleep, then thought he'd go up there and join in. Or he was all geeked up on some illegal drugs and freaked out.
    • Thanks for the better information. In particular:

Stieghorst, who said he has lived in his small downtown apartment for five years, said he was watching an adult DVD in Spanish called "Casa de Culo." He said the movie has no screaming that would suggest to someone a woman was in danger.

Of course the best quote follows immediately after that and makes me think that the nieghbor's being honest and not trying to lie to protect his reputation:

"It's all in Spanish, and I don't understand a word of it," he s

I love that they provide the name of the DVD, which translates roughly as "Ass House" or "House of Ass". Cracks me up.
  • Oconomowoc is a small town about 30 miles west of Milwaukee. Well, I remember it as a small town, anyway. :-) That's from the sixties and seventies, so it has probably changed some. My father grew up there, and my grandparents lived there while I was growing up. They lived on Lac La Belle, so we tended to spend a lot of time there in the summer.

I suppose that places change, but this is seriously weird for Oconomowoc, to me.
    • I always find it wierd when something bizarre, and national, happens at some location with which I'm familiar. One of the most surreal was watching the movie What the Bleep do we Know? at the Baghdad theatre here in Portland. Part of the movie was shot in that very theatre! Not quite as dramatic, but still definitely odd.
