Comment Giving hosts too much power. (Score 1) 30

This illustrates why host countries should not be given too much power. It's one thing if Brazil or some other country wants put on a unilateral show, but when an international organization is going to have a meeting, it should have an organizing committee that has the ultimate say. Obviously it has to work with the locals, but if the locals propose something stupid like this, the organizing committee should be able to say no, either fix it or we move the meeting elsewhere.

Zuck didn't fall asleep at the wheel. He was driving straight for the cesspool, wide awake, and on purpose from the beginning. Anyone who couldn't see where he was going was simply not looking.

We NEED social media in it's proper form.

I don't disagree, but if you want to supplant the public square with an online space, it needs to be decentralized and ideally should actually belong to the public.

I'm surprised that they expose their whole ordering and distribution system. Customers need to be able to send in orders, but they could do that on a machine that does nothing but collect orders. Once a day (or more often if necessary) an employee plugs a thumb drive into this machine, copies the data file, checks that it is in the correct format and doesn't contain anything it shouldn't, and transfers it to the machine that handles accounting, deciding which factory to send the beer from, etc.

The specific impulse of a fusion drive is expected to be several hundred times that of a chemical rocket, and "maximum speed" for a rocket is proportional to the specific impulse.

Nearer term advanced engines, i.e. ones that have working prototypes or even production examples, are in the 10-100x range. That takes a trip to Saturn from 12 years to between a month and a year. Or a few days for a hypothetical fusion drive.

"Interperitoneal perfusion" means they injected directly into the abdominal cavity, for an ovarian tumor. That's generally classified as surgery. It's not an IV, and would only work on specific kinds of tumor. And it's one very experimental patient. AND if it worked well, and you did a proper trial, you could patent it.

Scientists haven't lost interest. They're still publishing papers on the topic. You linked to some of them!

Your thesis is the tired old conspiracy theory that drug companies aren't interest in the research "because it's not patentable." But it is patentable, if someone ever comes up with something that actually works.
