For some customers, they looked at the resources needed to migrate, and decided it was cheaper to stay put and/or invest the resources that would be needed elsewhere in their business.

Yes, and the reason is that they stupidly painted themselves into a corner and never thought about an exit strategy. Had they been thinking about the possibility that they might one day need to migrate from the beginning, it would be much cheaper to do so now.

That's the thing about painting yourself into a corner, a little better planning at the start can always avoid it with little to no additional effort.

I've said it before, but I'll say it again for those who arrived lete: If you give an AI agency of any kind, imagine everything you ask of it to be appended with "by any means necessary", because that' how it will interpret it. Slander, doxxing, and murder will definitely NOT be off the table even if you explicitly forbid them. That's the problem.

I was in the 2nd grade when that happened. From my perspective, it was a great novelty and meant we got to take (mostly unnecessary) flashlights to school that we used in the morning walking to our bus stop. It was a hit with the kids I knew. We were disappointed that the "experiment" was stopped.

Meanwhile, in the northern-most states, the kids go to school in the dark now part of the year.

Moving from 1024 to 2048 when 768 is broken is one thing. But so far, quantum computers have only managed 6 bits and had to cheat a bit to do it. It took longer than a child with pencil and paper would take. The new improved quantum computers that were going to do better than that some 6 years ago just kinda didn't happen. We'll get 'em next year?

The fact that this RSA weakness is not based on quantum computation is irrelevant

It's extremely relevant. An actual computer that we can build today can exploit the new RSA weakness. We have no computers today that can run Shor or Grover and the timeline for one that can on a useful scale is somewhere between years and never.
