Comment My science teacher in the 70's (Score 1) 116

There was construction starting on a nuclear plant, 15 miles from where I lived in 1975. As our science class was about to start we were talking about that plant so close to where we lived and some were saying if it blew up we'd all be killed. The science teacher (older man in his 50's) heard us and when the bell rang he said we were not going to have class today, but talk about nuclear energy. In the course of an hour, he drew on the chalkboard (think analog whiteboard LOL), how a nuclear power plant works, how the rods are controlled, safety, backups pretty much everything. (he was really a smart teacher too!). By the time the class was over, no one in the class though of nuclear power in a negative way. It's just a giant "steam engine" to turn generators. That plant has been in operation since 1984. And without any issues. It was upgraded in the early 2000's.

Comment Bush already cleaned house (Score 1) 39

When Bush was head of the CIA, you know he "cleaned house" and destroyed any good evidence. I was 4 years old when that happened. Only thing I remember about it was the Saturday cartoons were not on because of it. Didn't understand it then... Anyone connected to the assassination if they were 20 years old is in their 80's today, if it was a conspiracy, they are either dead or almost dead, so what good would it do to "find the answer" if there was one? Hold the children who's parent(s) did it responsible? Just let it go!

The ONLY encrypted traffic should be "undercover" officer types transmissions. Over 20 years ago, our radios went from VHF to UHF and also had encryption. Our sheriff at the time said other than drug officers or undercover officers, he would FIRE any "regular" deputy if they used the encryption. When asked why by the media he said..."the public has the right to know what we are doing.".

Comment Bombers in plain site for a reason (Score 0) 245

The same as it is with a lot of the U.S. force. Under the treaty or agreements that the U.S. & Russia (soviet union) signed a long time ago, the bombers had to be parked in plain site that can be monitored by satellites. The way these all didn't explode means they were dry, or "boneyard" aircraft.

Comment Sad to see them go (Score 1) 185

I haven't driven an automatic since 1983. Every vehicle I've own has been a manual. Still driving a 2011 Mustang with a manual. My employer even supplies me with a work vehicle and I pushed to have a manual transmission. In the winter, "sticks" are better because you can start out in 2nd gear and not spin the tires as much, and you can downshift.
