The "rich" are already paying the vast majority of income tax in the US while about half of the country pays virtually no income tax at all. The top 1% of earners pay nearly 50% of income taxes.

For many GM vehicles with OnStar, it's not THAT difficult to physically disable the system if you so desire. The controller isn't hard to identify and you simply physically disconnect it. I have done this on my wife's GM SUV as we don't use the service (never subscribed). Here's a simplified example of how to disable it. There's plenty of info online about specific makes/models with instructions to disable.

A budget tablet is just crazy talk. How are our frenemies going to jam ads down our throat if we disconnect from the mothership?

My wife likes to do the family slide show thing when we've got family visiting around the holidays. We bought a couple of cheap-o 1080P android tablets from Walmart and use a simple slide show program and all the images stored on an SD card. No cloud and no network required.

Easy peasy.

Do we REALLY need additional providers for satellite internet? Competition is great, but given the huge capital cost to play in that game and the additional "space clutter" in orbit, does it make sense to have multiple satellite constellations providing essentially the same function? Does it benefit society or is it wasteful hubris?

I don't consume or intend to consume satellite internet so I don't really have a horse in this race.

That doesn't capture them all. You don't need an L2 charger at all. You can plug it into a 120V or 240v outlet and use the charging cable that used to come with all Teslas (now I think it's a few hundred bucks). A standard 4-prong 240V outlet (normally used for electric stoves and electric clothes dryers) and charge at a rate of about 30 miles of range per hour. That's actually what I use. Even if the battery is completely flat, you can plug in when you get home from work and it's fully charged in the morning.
