Comment Youtube's smart (Score 1) 159

Content creators have, over the last year or so, complained about how bad YT is being to them, and recommending that you visit their Patreon links. This provides them the $$ to continue to run their business, while permitting YT to monetize their channel, pay them significantly less, and maximize profits while short changing the creators. New creators are at a disadvantage as they don't have the benefit of the YT revenue while they are growing large enough to get a Patreon following. Oh well I guess.

What are the pros and cons to chatgpt monitization?
ChatGPT is a pre-trained language model developed by OpenAI that can be fine-tuned for a variety of natural language processing tasks, such as language translation, text summarization, and conversation modeling. Here are some potential pros and cons to monetizing ChatGPT:
Pros:
High accuracy: ChatGPT is a state-of-the-art language model and can produce highly accurate results for a wide range of NLP tasks.
Versatility: ChatGPT can be fine-tuned for many different use cases, making it a useful tool for many different industries.
Customizable: The model can be fine-tuned to suit the specific needs of a particular use case, which can increase its accuracy and overall performance.
Cons:
High computational cost: fine-tuning and running the model requires significant computational power, which can be costly.
Requires specialized knowledge: fine-tuning and using the model effectively typically requires a certain level of expertise in machine learning and natural language processing.
Data dependency: The model will perform better with more data, meaning the performance of the model is data dependent which may be an issue for some users.
Ethical concerns: Depending on the task, the data used to fine-tune the model and the outputs it produces can raise ethical concerns, such as privacy and bias.

When I moved into management several years ago, I very quickly realized that the note taking process I had used as an engineer wasn't as good for my new role. I happened to be at the apple store with my wife to fix her phone and realized that Neebo could read my handwriting and convert it to text. An ipad and pencil later, I found that while neebo was good, Goodnotes was better. My first iteration I had separate notebooks for each project, and had a bunch of ideas of how this should work. Current state, I draw a line, and use a standard format for meeting titles, I create a new notebook each year and keep everything in that 1 notebook. The search features are amazingly good and can search my handwriting. I also picked up a screen protector that feels more like paper.

The buy and share model of cloud services ride share, leases etc creates in it a certain challenge. Clouds are economical right now because you can purchase essentially normal compute hardware at essentially a similar cost to a normal user, but by using 100% of it, instead of the typical 25-30%, you can provide 100% usage between 3 customers. The challenge with this model, which is currently shifting, is that prices go up for the hardware, and only those who are running cloud services are able to afford it. Your normal user gets squeezed by the demand side of the economy. GPU's and bitcoin mining are a great example of this in practice. The "share model" is very cost effective, but it's a save a dollar today to spend 2 tomorrow model. As long as you are OK with living in an apartment of the designated size for your family, driving the available community car, eating at the cafeterias, and connecting our terminals to the cloud, the future will be bright for you!

Comment Crypto or Pyramid Scheme? (Score 2, Interesting) 263

Reading this post reminds me of that scene in idiocracy where you find out that they are watering plants with sports drinks. We had a problem, plants need water, we have a solution, we replaced water with sports drinks because they were so much better in every way.. why isn't this working? The only difference between Cryptocurrency and a Pyramid scheme is that you have to invest significantly more resources into crypto than calling everyone you know for a pyramid scheme, that and you don't have to sucker your friends and family, there are plenty of strangers, and shills out there to do it for you. Pyramid Scheme - people who get in early, make the most money.. if they all jump out, the pyramid falls down. Cryptocurrency - people who get in early, make the most money, when they cash out, it collapses. What you see happening is a group of people essentially busking the next best cryptocurrency, then migrating to the next.. they get in while it's really cheap, then start telling people it's heading "to the moon" then, well Profit... poor suckers who didn't get out are left holding the bag, and the world has that much less power, energy, etc.

There is a difference between freedom and anarchy. The line is drawn when you recognize that your actions have consequences and behave accordingly. The moment the mask rules for vaccinate individuals was lifted, and our "vaccine rate" went to 100% (based on mask usage), liberty stopped, and anarchy began. If you say you want to burn it down, I would ask you to review history, even the "revisionist history" we have available, and tell me how many times Anarchy has worked out for the people involved, and when the last time a revolution resulted in people being better off, post revolution.
