Biosphere 2 taught us that we did not know how to make a biosphere so time to try again.

I’m all for going to the moon, but not by trying to force-fit SLS and Orion into the program; they’re obsolete before they launch, if ever, and they’re only still alive because of one Sen. Richard Shelby.

The arguments about pro-democracy protesters and whistleblowers on Slashdot just do not hold a lot of water since I have never seen one or the other on Slashdot unless you count the GW is satan or Obama is going to look up patriots in old Walmarts as whistleblowing. I just count them as jerks.
Where Instagram and Facebook may be falling down is in protecting people from being scammed. It is all oh so easy for people to insult the anti-vax parents but that really shows a lack of understanding and compassion.
If you have a child with autism the amount of guilt is overwhelming. You have two choices. It was environmental which means you did something to harm your child or genetics which means something in you harmed your child. And yes I know and understand that you can not control your genetics. At that point, it is so much easier to believe that some evil corporation tricked you into harming your own child than to live with that guilt. Before you go off thinking how much smarter you are then those parents the truth is that you probably do not have the depth of knowledge to actually look at all the data and know for yourself that it is true. You just happen to trust the CDC and the majority of doctors. BTW trusting people that are experts is usually a good thing,
But add in the fact that we still do not know exactly what causes Autism combined with people that should no better coming up with techno mumbo jumbo that sounds like they know something and it should be understandable how some people would buy into.

The issue is that the villains and boy these are the villains are the SOBs that are getting rich writing books doing speaking tours spreading the anti-vax crap. The parents are just victims. They are not stupid, they are simply mislead and if you look at their motivations they are really just to protect other children. They are wrong but they are not stupid or evil. The SOBs that write the books and make money off of it are the true super villians and I for one would like them go away. But the hate, anger, and insults toward anti-vaxer parents is just wrong. I will not change anyones mind and frankly just makes the them vs us attitude more entrenched. It is almost like people do it just so they can feel better about themselves by looking down on others.

So with that being does Facebook have an obligation to stop the spread of miss information about vaccinations? Do they have an obligation to stop the spread of misinformation about Nuclear power like the Chernobyl movie/mini series? How about all the other crap memes that people spread?

The Melbourne/Palm Bay/Cocoa area of Florida is not listed. I can tell you that there is a lot of tech jobs in that area. You have large facilities for Northrup Gurman, Space X, Blue Origin, Rockwell Collins, Thales, and it is the headquarters for L3Harris. My company will pay me a 10,000 bonus for recruiting someone. Cost of living is cheap with a nice home running about 250,000 but you can find a condo or a fixer-upper for under 100,000 and some decent homes in the 150,000 range. I left out NASA as an employer as well as many other companies in the area. The skills most people want are c and c++.
A college grade will start at about 70+ for an SE. if you have the experience you will make a lot more. You also get clean air, water, beaches, and nowhere near the traffic of say Atlanta.

Comment Re:Why stick with american old tractors? (Score 4, Insightful) 246

Do tractors have to meet emissions? If so that could be the reason for some of the complexity. Older Tractors are probably exempt. In the trucking industry, they get around that with what they call gliders. They are new trucks but with old rebuilt engines. The rules are that the engine and transmission are the year of the truck for emissions. If that is the issue then maybe a system like that would work for tractors. You just get older tractors and rebuild them and offer a warranty. But then you have the ethical question are you then avoiding emissions controls and making pollution worse and actually hurting people. Another option would be to convert them to use natural gas as it burns a lot cleaner, is cheap and produces less CO2 per unit of energy than most other fuels. Maybe electric is a possibility if the costs can be driven down and the range issue would not exist. I have not done the math or any studies but I am sure that someone will at some point.

First of all the optional two free years would be state schools like a local college/community college, not Georgetown. The classes you are talking about would be electives. I really have no problem with an elective that covers music, different cultures, or even science fiction. It reminds me of a discussion I had with my father. He mentioned that he did not understand why like liked science fiction when I was a kid and thought that I would have grown out of it by now. I reminded him that I work for a company that builds robots and parts of spacecraft. Yes, you would need to take core courses but you would also have some electives available. I would also like to see tech/vocational classes as an option as well. It would need to worked out so people do not just keep getting Ds and sucking up resources. You pick a program and you follow it. I think that the benefits to the US economy would more than pay for such a program. I would also like to see more High School classes count for college credit. If you take Calc in High School you may not want it to count as a college Calc class but it should count for at least College Algebra or pre Calc.
Thanks for taking a look at my blog. Work plus I am back in college have really taken up a lot of time so I have really let it slid for a while. It is never going to be anything super popular but it is practice at writing for me and it may be of interest to someone.

The Millenniums I deal with are all software or electrical engineers and some are still worried about student loans.
As to your question education is education but the costs are just too high. I would like to see at least an AA or some technical training available as part of public education. People need more education that is obvious today. Anti-Vaxx, Climate Change Deniers, solar and wind can replace all baseload and peaking generation true believers.
