I worked at IBM for a time. Half the building was salesmen. The other half was a development lab. When I was hired I was told that the dress code was "casual". When I first showed up wearing nice jeans and a nice shirt. While waiting for the manager to come and sign me in the first time, there were all these fellows (salesmen) in the impecable IBM blue suits with white starched shirts (that looked as uncomfortable as all hell). I figured I was somewhat under-dressed.

Then the actual people who knew stuff started to arrive. Torn jeans. Brilliant mohawks. Pierced noses and ears and stuff.

In the end the only difference was that I was the only person in the building that did not have a university degree whereas everyone else did -- even the janitor.
