Good point and this program may stave off the crisis for a little while... The problem with, frankly stealing other countries highly skilled people is that the main sources of highly skilled immigration to Canada, namely China, Russia, Ukraine are themselves facing demographic crisis so one wonders for how long they will continue to turn a blind eye towards this poaching. Even India, another major skilled migrant donor now only has 2.139 love births per woman, which is pretty much exactly the replacement rate.

Potential savings in my example of a 30 y/o person are in the tens, if not hundreds of thousands of dollars of their remaining lifetime. When scaled up to the millions of the sick, the elderly and the "unproductive" the savings will cancel out whatever the cost of legislation and other administrative overhead was.

Most developed countries social security system will be running out of money by 2050. It's all over the news, so somebody must be doing the counting and looking for ways to cut down on costs. We can't magically create tens of millions of young, healthy tax payers so the only other way (without radically changing how the system works) is to get rid of the sick, the elderly and the unproductive. This is the plan and what we are seeing now is merely a pilot project. It's an Overton window to get the public to accept the radical idea that everyone should be offered the "dignified exit" option.

Nice cherry-picking, do you know that the Hippocrates oath also includes a pledge to not perform abortions (and euthanasia)? "I will not give a lethal drug to anyone if I am asked, nor will I advise such a plan; and similarly I will not give a woman a pessary to cause an abortion". Maybe the ancients weren't so wise aftercall.
