  • Like I've always said, some of these people are hypocrites. Nobody really knows anyone here. People only show what they want others to see. We have your resident attention starved housewife that must "flirt" incessantly so that she feels desirable. We have your wanna be playboy that tries so hard to impress with his story of conquests so he can get some positive affirmation to make up for low self-esteem. We have your your right-wing political, ultra conservative "Christian" that sits in judgement like Chri
    • Yeah, if you're superficial, everyone else looks superficial too. Shocking.
    • We have your wanna be playboy that tries so hard to impress with his story of conquests so he can get some positive affirmation to make up for low self-esteem.

      heh. friended! good call!
    • And people like to use the excuse of being honest, blunt, or telling it like it is to behave like an asshole.

Do you really think RWS' comment was that insightful?

      Really?

To me it was at the opposite of end of the spectrum from "It'll all be OK", completely useless and contributed nothing.

Or is it just refreshing to see someone move away from groupthink?
      • Sometimes, people need to hear something other than "it'll all be OK." This is just my own opinion of course. But sometimes it takes an honest and blunt response to make one angry, to incite them to get up and do something instead of wallowing. Trust me, I've been there.

Now, let's look at the "been physical" aspect of things. Can you really condone "physical" behavior of any kind when a small child and blind/deaf woman is involved? I don't condone it at all, for anyone....male or female. But when you toss

        • So is this [slashdot.org] telling it like it is then?

RWS is a troll, I friended him because he was a funny troll. In regards to this though he's being an assholish troll, not a honest, blunt, or funny one. But then, some people have a different idea of what's funny.

Don't give RWS credit for what you project onto him and read into his statements. Perhaps George needs to be kicked in the ass to get his ass into gear, but that's not what RWS and co are trying to do.
          • So, basically, if he's insulting people you don't know... he's funny. If he's doing exactly the same fucking thing to your digital "friends", he's an asshole?

Did you know that a lot of movies include rape scenes because they're entertaining to men? It's hurtful when something bad happens to someone you know, but if it happens to someone else, you're willing to pay for that shit as entertainment. Same principle, different medium chuckles.
            • Worse yet, a lot of abusers get support from friends and family because "abuser's such a nice guy, he would never do that... it's all an exaggeration/a big mistake...it's really not that bad..." and shit along those lines...
            • No, that has nothing to do with it.

The difference is not if I know them or not, the difference is what subject the journal poster wrote about.

There's a big difference between trolling in a journal on mundane events, or trolling in a journal where someone says their wife left them. It's not the post that makes him an asshole, it's where he chose to post it.
              • I think you're justifying things after the fact. I think if you think slashdot trolling is about hassling people under "mundane circumstances" then you don't know what slashdot trolling is.

I think you need to get off your high horse, because you're not fooling me.
                • Oh no, I'm sure I won't be able to sleep knowing that you think less of me.

And justifying what after what fact?

I don't have much of an issue with RWS' post, it's pretty much what I expect from him, and you.
My problem is that you and I both know you're both just trolling as usual, you're not trying to somehow "help" George by being blunt, you just want to get a rise out of people by being assholes. You're good at it and you succeded.
I guess I just expected others on Slashdot to see that aswell and not be so
                  • Okay, so now the problem isn't that people are posting intensely personal details on the Internets, it's that other people don't immediately run over to those posts and start acting like a surrogate family.

                    Yeeeaaah.
