Journal Random Suicide's Journal: Ask Slashdot: Killing myself 12

For personal reasons, I have decided to end my life prematurely within the next couple of weeks. The only decision left to make is how to do it, and if anyone's got any advice I'd love to hear it. My requirements are as follows:

  • Must be as painless as possible. I'm a total pussy.
  • Must be a "sure thing." I don't want to fuck it up and end up maimed or something
  • Must be as clean as possible. It would be rude to leave a big mess.
  • Ideally, my body would be discovered by a law enforcement type person. I don't want to place undue stress on whoever finds me, so I'd like it if the person was functioning in a professional capacity.
  • Must not potentially harm others. Once again, it's just rude to jump off a building and land on someone.

I'll post more as I think of them. I've got a little time to plan, so it's no big rush.

I'd like to stress that I'm not looking for reasons to live here. All I'm after is some good solid pros and cons of various methods of suicide. If you're about to throw some "before you kill yourself, read this" bullshit at me, just save it.

If you want a 'sure thing' then just hang around for about another 70 to 80 years, you're probably going to die by then for sure!

If you try to go out early, what about all your friends and family? I thought about it a few times, but, just seemed it was a bit rude to just jump off the merry go round before it had stopped.

I recommend you apply game theory to your decision; if you kill yourself now - you have nothing at all to gain from it other than the cessation of momentary problems you may be experiencing right now.

If you continue to live your life, play it out to the end, then there is a chance, however small, that you will find some happiness that will make your life worth living.

Looking at game theory, you can see that its much better to just stay alive and grit your way through any problems you might have right now than to kill yourself because by sticking through, you might actually find that thing.

You never know what might happen in your life, but if you kill yourself, you can never know.

There is a lot of "what if" but they are all better than a "definite nothing".

Poison can be painless, and leaves your body in-tact (which is important for a funeral/relatives/etc.). If you do it in an appropriate secluded area, you won't be found until you're dead (and even if you're found beforehand, they won't be able to save you). It seems, in some senses, the most practical.

Explosion at sea is instant, and leaves no trace. Take a boat, alone, and row out. Have some TNT (or any other explosive) along, and detonate it. No one knows why you died, and there's no cleanup. If you care
  • ... I'll be praying for ya man. There's no reason that I've to make dying a better alternative.
  • ... I'll be praying for ya man. There's no reason that I've seen to make dying a better alternative.
  • ...with a bit of money (hello credit cards!) you can get a trip to Antartica. Why don't you try to make it to the South Pole? Or maybe the Himilaya's?

I'm sure it wouldn't be too hard to 'escape' from what ever tour you'd need to take to get to a base camp. You'd want to get some pretty good kit so that you actually got a chance to see some of the wonders there. A delayed note would let people know what you were up to after the event. And freezing is supposed to be pretty painless.
