Journal PerlJedi's Journal: Hello Apache 2.2 and Mod Perl 2.0 3

This is a journal entry testing our first release moving Slashdot on to modern versions of apache and ModPerl. Though this test instance is not available to the public yet, it will be comming soon... (this weekend provided all tests go smoothly between now and then).

Hello Apache 2.2 and Mod Perl 2.0

  • Post a story introducing "beta".slashdot.org to the masses and see what happens.

    • Actually, because I've implemented the changes in a sufficiently transparent manner that we can run Slashdot on the new Apache 2.2/ModPerl 2.0 side by side with the current Slashdot implementation, even sharing the same back-end database, short of the announcement, no one will likely even realize the switch has occurred. The plan will be to spin up front end web servers running the new code base one at a time while spinning down the servers running the old code base. Nice and painless.

A complex system that works is invariably found to have evolved from a simple system that works.
