Newspapers and other local journalism vehicles need to be nonprofits supported by earnings from an endowment that the board of the nonprofit holds and manages. They also need to operate an education arm that increases access to journalism careers by apprenticing journalists and cutting the overpriced colleges and universities out of the process. Pittance grants from likes of MacArthur and Knight are irrelevant- they need to donate endowment level grants whose earnings can support a minimum initial staff of 30 who can do the management, operational, and educational mission of a sustainable community journalism entity.

It's not just "third party", it's "any third party". You seem convinced that this is only the person who received the binary, but what do you base this on? I don't see anything in the GPL license to support that idea.

While that is ostensibly true, that does not mean that opengapps is the only way to get there. You could install microG like /e/ does, or use Aurora.

I installed LineageOS explicitly to be delivered from Google.

Settings -> Apps and notifications -> Show all apps -> Select the app -> Advanced -> Battery -> Background restriction

At least, that's the path for me in LineageOS (which is based on AOSP).
