I lived on one of the Army bases in the Pacific where they had boats. Those boats were used to bring native Marshallese from their island to the base, as they did a lot of the minimum wage and manual labor work on the island.
It was originally a Navy base until the â60s (â70s, MAYBEâ¦). After the Army took over, they used civilian boat captains to ferry the locals from where they lived to Kwajalein, then back at the end of the day.
