Journal Oculus Habent's Journal: Spending a Billion Dollars Selflessly 6

What would you do with a billion dollars? What selfless things would you do with your money? Would you donate to art, drama, speech, or music programs? Would you put money into a space program, medical research, or something most of us don't even think about? Would you make commercials? Lobby for cheaper dental care? Improve public transportation? Replant forests? Protect endangered species? Clean up a river? Find a cheaper power source? Feed the hungry? Create new jobs? Give away Gatorade on hot days? Pass out coupons at grocery stores?

  • I'd lock about 100 doctors in a labratory and give them everything they need to cure it.

There's a cure waiting, but I believe (tin foil hate time) there's too much money to be made in the industry off cancer victims and "research" for treatments rather than cures.

So, I'd lock them in the lab and say go at it. When you are done, you will get what's left of the billion.
    but that's just me.
  • I'd buy an entire slum. Then I'd buy a house for each person in the slum somewhere else where they could build a community, with much nicer homes, and give them cars and jobs and such. Then I'd raze the slum and build decent housing there and give that away to the next slum. Hopefully, I could find a way to get it perpetually funded so I could continually do it. It'd never work, though...people in slums would probably just create more slums where I moved them.
  • Burn it in public, just to make clear that money is not what life is about... (after I set a few millions aside on a secret bankaccount)

Kidding. But I doubt a billion would be enough to solve real global problems. Art no, I guess people will allways spend money on art so that would be useless. Perhaps I would spend it on developing free, MS-Office like software for Linux, to get Linux easier in use for the majority. Not a very original idea...

  • I would begin by paying off my mom's house, then those of my relatives in no particular order. Some of them are pretty poor financially, but industrious. Would make sure they all had good reliable transportation so they can concentrate on the other things they do.

Make sure my son is take care of, a fund of some sort so that he can buy a house when he finishes all of his college. Would make him continue to work and pay for college like he is doing now before he gets anything.

    After testing on the relativ
  • I'd pay off my churches loans for the building. Setup some sort of education fund so our best teachers stop going to GA for more money. Build a public computer center on a public library with GOOD PCs, so everyone can have access to the internet. I'd probably fund (or go on) a mission trip to Africa to our sister church.

Then I'd put enough in the bank to never have to work again, buy a lake house, buy a Mitsubishi 300GT VR4 Spider, buy a Dodge Viper, buy a GMC Sierra Denali with Quadra Steer and ski boat
