Comment Almost no VPN protocol works here in Iran (Score 5, Informative) 22

I've tried it all. Tor, wireguard. wireguard over TCP. openvpn, UDP and TCP, obfuscated or not. shadowsocks, v2ray. and all sorts of stealth modes that vpn providers claim that are meant to bypass censorship. These fuckers bought the most sophisticated software and hardware from china and have tweaked them for maximum efficiency to make sure that the country moves back towards the stone age while the regime and the government milk money and resources from the people to spend for their families living in mansions in Canada/US/UK and other places. Sure if you try hard enough you can finally gain access but how many of the 80m population can understand all of these technicalities to get themselves free access to the free internet. Not to mention, they have also blocked access to the apple's appstore and google's playstore. Despite all of that, People still are trying to find ways to connect by sharing APK files to free, unsafe vpn apps that works sometimes and are hotspotting their vpn connections from android devices to help apple devices gain appstore access to download free vpn apps. By the way, I've tried tor from different locations in Iran connecting from different ISPs and mobile networks. 80% of the time it doesn't work and if it does, your internet speed will be something around 5 to 20 kb/s and it won't hold for too long. If you're from Iran and reading this, Express VPN's lightweigh protocol works great, nordvpn's wireguard implementation works on the MCI network, PIA's TCP protocol works on ADSL connections although all of these might stop working at some point and I do know that you do have to spend your two+ months of salary to purchase these services.

We (Iran) are going to literally run out of electricity for summer, economy is free falling by the hour, officials have no idea how to deal with grain shortage, 70% of the annual government budget belongs to the brain washing religious programs and each month there's an official fleeing to EU/US/Canada with huge chunks of stolen people's money, I feel like the regime can't afford to fund a cyber attack on a children's hospital in Boston TBH. Saying that, The Iranian intelligence is right after journalists and activists and their families. But hey we being the bad guys is not totally bad At least kids these days know the difference between Iran and Iraq

Comment Iran has started to do the same at the exact time (Score 1) 103

IT's been a week that the 3g/LTE ISPs of Iran have also done the exact thing. I did not figure out why the hell my VPN connections suddenly stopped working, checking the logs it says handshake initiation failed with wireguard. Now that i read this article and did some more research, They began to do the same thing. How long till we become colonized by China i wonder?

Comment I live in Iran and it was depressing (Score 5, Informative) 60

It was not depressing because i did not have internet access to the world for an entire week. It was depressing because after they restored access i realized that they were very successful at 1. silencing the protests by cutting communications. 2. they shot protesters at point blank in some instances used choppers or snipers set up on rooftops to shoot peacefull protesters and after a few days used security cameras to arrest people who were using phones to record the events; therefore cutting down on the info the world media had on what is going on; therefore belittling the horrible things that went on here around the world. most people in the world don't really know what went on here in those bloody days the info slowly released after the internet was restored so it all did not matter at the end. perfectly executed Iranian regime.

Comment It's like a nightmare living here. (Score 1) 52

It is really hell on earth here in Iran even though we pretend that everything is alright From companies such as digital ocean, amazon, spotify and apple blocking your IP access to the country's poor and old network infrastructure and their censorship with DPI and other tech they get from china, You just really don't want to be here as a developer or a technology enthusiast. While the rest of the world advances at gene editing, aviation and space research, The children here are brainwashed daily on religious crap and the government and the regime keep eating away at the country's resources for their own agenda. The world does not need to hate us for very long we'll eventually destroy ourselves when the natural resources of these lands run out; with loads of current mismanagement and officials stealing millions of dollars each year to flee to the west, it won't be long.

Comment Re:In Canada we don't have usable AODA compliance (Score 0) 196

As a user who uses a screen reader i must say the screen reader that costs $100 a year for windows, which used to cost $1500 for each version sucks in so many different ways compared to NVDA which is an open source free software. Sure the proprietary software comes with an extensive scripting engine and all but it is ridiculously slow, is plagued with bugs that are never fixed. They're feeding from education centers by selling huge amounts of licenses to them while in truth their software is horrible compared to an open source alternative which is getting better every day. So i disagree with your statement of buying better software but it's pretty right that its a hit and miss somethings work better with a screen reader compared to the other one while almost nothing works very well with Orca, linux's gui screen reader besides gnome's own apps.

Comment A sad day to live in Iran (Score 0) 100

Getting pestered by the regime for everything we do to the point that they cancel live concerts in the cities just because they can to the US doing what saudis wants them to do to hurt not the regime but just us ordinary people just because they can. Meanwhile the members of the regime's kids are in Europe and america waiting to be approved for citizenship so they can live better in their mansions.

Comment screen reader users use keyboard all the time (Score 0) 308

We usually are pretty fine in native win/linux/osx environment but once there's a software that we're required to work with does not support any form of keyboard navigation (there are so many of them recently), life turns into hell because then we have to resort to OCR and creating custom hotspots with a sighted help on the application. So it's not fantastic but it's pretty good because keyboard is still the only way of interacting with computers with one group of disabled users.
