All the games that I want to play on steam are just not available on Linux.

Unless you are playing exclusively MMOs, this is just misinformed. I moved my desktop to Linux over a year ago, and literally everything I've tried on Steam just works. None of it is native Linux, but it all runs perfectly fine.

A few examples: MW5:Mercenaries, MW5:Clans, Empyrion, Starfield, X4, Just Cause 3, Control, Battletech, etc. I've played local, streamed remote, put things in a window side-by-side with videos running, run games concurrently with background VMs. No audio problems, no video problems. I've put a running game on top of a VM window using Looking Glass, with the VM running Win11.

The only games that have actual problems are ones that need kernel based DRM - to keep the multiplayer cheaters out. But I don't do MMOs, so I don't particularly care.

I think the inevitable thing is the main players getting crushed in the middle. At the high end it is as you said, but at the low end people can run some pretty impressive local models. Why pay monthly for something you can setup locally for a few $k in hardware. Anthropic and such are in the middle, not price competitive at the high end or low end.

I have Disney+. It is only in cinemas right now. If it follows the pattern it will be streaming in 3 months or so. But really Disney's marketing has been kind of crap. I only randomly noticed this was going into theaters about a week ago.

This same thing happened with Tron. I am a Tron fan and wanted to see Tron Ares in theater but didn't even realize it was in theaters until it was out. I was rather busy back at that time, but didn't recall seeing promotional ads for it anywhere.

In the Star Wars verse it is kind of too bad that Andor (and Rogue One) characters were in a plot-wise dead end. The group in Andor would have made better movie material than Mandalorian.

Phone books also did not show a relation between people. "Here's all the people in this town that did not opt-out of being listed" vs "here's a list of people that I know well enough to have their number, regardless of if they want their number known to others".

On a side note, I wish android would let me keep old contacts for archive purposes, but let me hide them. I don't want to see my abusive ex or her friends in my contact list, but I want to know if they're the person trying to contact me currently.

I worry less about battery or starter failure, and more about bearing failure. It's relatively easy to replace a failing battery or even a starter in many vehicles, but every time that engine stops, the oil pressure drops and the main bearing and crankshaft lose the oil's fluid separation. You get way more bearing wear at engine start from friction, even when it's already warm, than the engine gets the entire rest of the time it stays running, and bearing failure, or even just replacement, is an expensive process.

Additionally, the often recommended 10k mile oil changes allows more carbon and contamination build up in the oil more, which is going to lead to more bearing friction, turbo issues, valve issues on GDI engines, etc.
