The new niche is stability, not changing fundamental things without choice, look at Windows start menu, now a flaming pile of shit - two non-interacting processes in one UI, not resizable, not configurable, primarily an ad-delivery service. Let's not get started with co-pilot.
This is not innovation, this is follow where we lead even if that destination favours user commoditization over user productivity.
Windows is the Facebook of operating systems.

Haha, I think there is something to the diverse ecosystem argument, like what if they were all "mandated" to install some kind of SolarWinds software - standards are only as secure as the lowest common denominator. Homogeneity breeds insecurity. It's not like we're lacking diversity in software these days, what's wrong with some segmentation.

Apparently they opened the 600 theatres and nobody went, total take was on the order of 10k USD for the weekend and the terms of opening were pretty strict regarding sterilization, staff proof-of-health and spaced seating (half capacity). Also nobody wanted to release their new film to empty venues so it was mostly repeats.

Looks like people are starting to get together for dinners/KTV with close friends they trust but are not yet to the point where they want to spend 2 hrs in a closed space with strangers.

The value proposition with ARM WinRT is new, you get a copy of Office (desktop version) with every license. This hasn't been done before, at the price that an ARM WinRT license goes for ($85-$90) you get the OS and Office, thus sharing a slice of the massive revenue Office brings.

I don't think MS is worried about OEM's taking the opportunity seriously, I think they genuinely want to push the envelope on design and quality, it's like saying "if you can't beat this (Surface), then you are going to lose.", that is a legitimate business strategy.
