Submission + - Meta and Yandex are de-anonymizing Android users' web browsing identifiers (github.io)

TheWho79 writes: It appears as though Meta (aka: Facebooks parent company) and Yandex have found a way to side step the Android Sandbox :

a novel tracking method by Meta and Yandex potentially affecting billions of Android users. We found that native Android apps—including Facebook, Instagram, and several Yandex apps including Maps and Browser—silently listen on fixed local ports for tracking purposes. These native Android apps receive browsers' metadata, cookies and commands from the Meta Pixel and Yandex Metrica scripts embedded on thousands of web sites. These JavaScripts load on users' mobile browsers and silently connect with native apps running on the same device through localhost sockets. As native apps access programatically device identifiers like the Android Advertising ID (AAID) or handle user identities as in the case of Meta apps, this method effectively allows these organizations to link mobile browsing sessions and web cookies to user identities, hence de-anonymizing users' visiting sites embedding their scripts. This web-to-app ID sharing method bypasses typical privacy protections such as clearing cookies, Incognito Mode and Android's permission controls. Worse, it opens the door for potentially malicious apps eavesdropping on users’ web activity.

The schematic he posted shows he put a bridge rectifier before the batteries, meaning the charger was seeing at least a 0.6V difference from what the batteries were actually at.

I mean, not catching that alone should be enough to disqualify him from working on lithium batteries.

It's gotten to be an art trying to understand technically what these popsci articles are describing in layspeak.

Anyways, here's a direct link to the paper: https://ancillary-proxy.atarimworker.io?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.nature.com%2Farticle...

Basically, they're talking about matching a standard telco twisted pair with a balun, and find they can keep it behaving as a transmission line until 5GHz, and higher frequencies by increasing the twists.

Introducing Verizon Custom Experience.
It’s your experience, tailored to your interests.

Hi ,

At Verizon, we believe being America’s most reliable network comes with a responsibility to safeguard and protect your information. Your privacy is important to us, and we want to let you know about a new choice you have regarding how we use your information.

We’d like to introduce Verizon Custom Experience, a program designed to provide you more personalized experiences with Verizon. You will be part of Custom Experience unless you opt out.

How it works

The program uses information about websites you visit and apps you use on your mobile device to help us better understand your interests. This helps us personalize our communications with you, give you more relevant product and service recommendations, and develop plans, services and offers that are more appealing to you.

To be very clear, this information is used only by Verizon; we do not sell this information to others for them to use for their own advertising.

You’re in control

You will be part of Custom Experience unless you opt out. You can opt out at any time on the My Verizon site or your My Verizon app by accessing privacy preferences.

Mike came to my school back when I was in 8th grade. I don't remember his talk, but afterwards he was walking out when I was walking out and I asked him starstruck and excitedly, "did you REALLY go to the moon??" He was looking at the ground kinda sad, and said yes. He seemed very un-charismatic at that moment, and I remembered that forever.

I took away from that that doing important, amazing things in life doesn't always make you famous or bring accolades. Those things are nontheless still amazing and important. Don't put your value in what others think.

I know I received a notification a few weeks ago that there was going to be an upgrade on NWSChat, and from the limited information they gave it sounded like an AS change for a new ISP connection. The fact that it was so urgent and customer-impacting indicates they were in dire straits.

I'd argue that the NWS IT infrastructure would be going the way our bridges and highways are going...it's something our country relies on, but probably hasn't had the funding it requires in a long time, and now the cracks are beginning to show.

I read this study. The conclusion is that testing using temperature is not foolproof. Young adults often do not show symptoms while they are still contagious, therefore testing using temperature only allowed several contagious people to spread the virus.

Masks and lockdowns have been proven effective in other studies.
