Battlestar Galactica Hosted At the UN 252

TheDopp writes "The United Nations hosted the cast and crew of Battlestar Galactica Tuesday evening in New York. Clips of the show were shown as discussion points during the event, touching on the morality of Suicide Bombers in war, Abortion and the use of torture on enemies of the state. At one point during the event an attendee mentions 'the "Old Man" launched into a passionate speech about casting off the idea of race as a cultural determinant, and said we were one race, the human race. His voice echoed throughout the chamber growing louder until — I kid you not — he was yelling, "So Say We All," and the crowd answered right back. Hell, even I yelled it, I was in the fraking United Nations with Adama, the gods themselves could not have stopped this moment.' The full video of the event is located on the UN website."

MySQL doesn't own the copyright to libreadline and InnoDB. It's a reuser of those components. As such it's choosing to comply with its GPL obligations to those licensors by using clause 3a and distributing the source to just those who it gives the binaries to. Those people can than freely pass it on to others if they wish and MySQL is well aware of this.

Submission + - Ocean Floor Crust Wound to Be Explored

eldavojohn writes: "A group of scientists are disembarking right now to study an open gash in the ocean floor where earth's mantle lays exposed without any crust covering it. The scientists describe these as similar to stretch marks that a person might experience on their skin from a growth spurt. Either that or the mantle was never covered by the crust and just has always been like this. From the article, "Regardless of how they formed, the exposed mantle provides scientists with a rare opportunity to study the Earth's rocky innards. Many attempts to drill deep into the planet barely get past the crust.""

I'd say that downloading and viewing paedophilic pictures is rather different to actually abusing a child. It would take a certain leap to jump from images on a screen to real life. Perhaps an "internet ban" (leaving aside any potential difficulties with enforcement) will prevent the individual concerned from developing a "taste" for children, and eventually finding that simply viewing is not enough.
