"This is huge," said Margo Oge, an electric vehicles expert who headed the EPA's transportation emissions program under Presidents Bill Clinton, George W. Bush and Barack Obama. "California will now be the only government in the world that mandates zero-emission vehicles. It is unique."

I was going to post to say that this 'expert' is an idiot, since other countries have already set the same rule on a tighter timescale, but the article doesn't contain this quote from him or from anyone for that matter. Doesn't even contain the word 'unique'.

At what point do we have to stop pretending that this site is still about news?

So, Apple have the strongest stance on personal privacy of any of the major tech companies..

They now have the most powerful (per watt) performance of any hardware manufacturer, and stand a very good chance of flat having the most powerful performance figures there are, once they get round to releasing desktop kit.

And now they have recognised the right to repair movement and started actively supporting it.

So tell me again why you hate Apple? The rage makes me feel warm inside.

Vaccinations in the UK prioritised the extremely vulnerable and then the elderly. Those groups are going to be disproportionately highly represented among the double vaccinated group.

Coincidentally, old people tend to die more than young people, and people with a significant medical condition die more frequently than those without.

Covid isn't killing these people because they've had the vaccine. They're dying because they're ill or old, and because they're ill or old they were prioritised to get the vaccine.

Note also that they died *with* Covid, they didn't necessarily die *because of* Covid - that's not what these stats record.

This was probably true at a point in time, though I'm not sure I agree it would be as recent as 2016.

There was a time when iMessage was notably better than SMS messaging and non-SMS messaging applications were not well integrated on iPhones. That hasn't been true for ages now though. Signal, WhatsApp, Telegram.. you can use them all just as easily as iMessage now.

It's literally in the linked article, you tool.
As suspected, allegations that the Slashdot editors actually did anything are unfounded.

Your president has far more unilateral power than any western monarch in the current era, which is kinda ironic when you consider history.

How is this presidential pardon mechanism not totally CORRUPT AS FUCK? .

It doesn't matter what the party, why is everyone OK with the president having this ability to overrule the law? Isn't one of your big things that the justice system and the political system are indepdendent?

I have similar questions about why everyone is so OK with this executive order thing, but that's a rant for another day..

This is pretty hilarious. I've been on Slashdot as a routine user since 2001 and time and time again I've seen Americans bragging about how all the other countries in the world are screwed because we don't have all the guns to protect us from our government.

Now we have a protests taking place all over the globe and which country is the one firing bullets and tear gas at their protestors? At what point exactly are your umpteen million firearms going to sweep in and save the day?

If you want a counterpoint, here in the UK a mass protest took the step of ripping down a statue of a slave trader and throwing it in the harbour. The police took the active decision to stand back and let them do it, recognising that it was not just a common act of rioting and prioritising the wellbeing of the people above a statue. That's how you do policing in a civilised country, and no guns required on either side.
