Alright, most of us agree that a 4 day work week would be nice. However I think Bernie is missing the more concerning implication of the shift towards AI in that itâ(TM)s a large transfer of wealth to a handful of tech companies. OpenAI and Anthropic will be getting paid rather than the salaries that were previously paid towards skilled labor workers in writing, marketing, software engineering, illustration, designâ¦and numerous other fields. Humans are terrible about considering the long game.

Comment And heâ(TM)s wrong (Score 1) 178

AI makes for a handy assistant just like spellcheckers are for writing but youâ(TM)re never going to eliminate having a developer involved in creating code. The quality is just not there, it makes up methods that donâ(TM)t exist, doesnâ(TM)t write idiomatically and is only aware of languages and packages that existed at the time it was last trained. It will often fail to handle breaking packages updates and just fall over when you try to refine the output to accommodate it. The tech is promising but right now the cost to run and train those models is not sustainable. From a pure energy in/ energy out perspective human brains are are far more efficient.
