So the move was more of a way to ensure a steady income as consumers who wanted to stick with a familiar product upgraded all of their peripherals.

My Samsung uses the headset as an antenna. It's do-able, but in this case the statement's correct: Apple prevented this in order to ensure that users had to pay for services.

I'm not a fan of the FCC, but in this case they're right.

And I imagine the reason it's not in the most recent Apple phones is that Apple foresaw this day possibly coming, and thought "Fuck them! If we don't put it in the phone (and we're not legally required to), then we eliminate the potential loss of revenue down the road if and when someone figures out how to enable these things"

The sooner people realize Apple is in it solely for Apple, and not to elevate their users, the sooner this disaster of a company goes away.

Once that notebook of future plans that Steve left behind runs out, Apple isn't looking too good. The stagnant release of the latest iPhone and the continued decline of the Mac are evidence of what Tim's brought to the table. Removing features powers users want, and offering new features that competitors have been offering for years. Wow.

I'm not talking about the plugins and extensions breaking, although that is also a potential deal breaker for me, but my Autohotkey scripts will not fire when the latest Firefox Developer Edition has the focus (v.57).

They won't fucking work, no matter what's ran. Trackpad gestures, nothing. Overlays and hotkeys, nada.

Even opening WindowSpy shows noting when FF has the focus. What the fuck??? My scripts are not app-specific, and work in every browser, including older versions of FF and the alpha and beta versions.

Now... It's the developer edition, and perhaps there's some esoteric setting that's user configurable which will allow me to correct this, although I seriously doubt it.

The problem is that these kind of unique-to-Firefox problems, coupled with them breaking most of their extensions makes Firefox a huge time sink on top of everything else.

Not only do we need to reconfigure the FF configuration we've spent years tailoring to our unique work styles and needs, but now we have to spend hours troubleshooting random weirdness such as this AHK problem. How much is a user supposed to endure, considering the quality of FF's competitors?

I find FF's live bookmarks indispensable and use them daily. I hate to lose this feature... For now, I am sticking with Waterfox, but I find myself more drawn to Chrome based solely on the performance of its mobile browser. FF on any mobile device I've used is SLOW and displays things oddly. Try loading the dailymail on your phone in FF mobile to see what I mean.

If you look at (fairly) recent history, I think you'll see a pattern with the 2 main parties: Republicans are open about what they plan to do, so people take offense with it and treat them as "haters", painting them to be old fashioned religious zealots (and to be fair, some are).

Democrats on the other hand have a tendency to say whatever the voting public wants to hear in order to get votes, but they often lie and do something different once in office. Obama has lots of example of this behavior, as does Hillary (and many others, but they're the focus due to the election)

Personally, I prefer honesty and openness vs. lies and half-truths. I'm sick of being lied to, and Obama has lied a lot.

I'm not in support of spying on American citizens at all. Having said that, the country has some obligation to try and root out Islamist extremists and unfortunately, until they have the minority report up and running at 100%, spying on people you suspect of having connections to terrorists is one of our only tools to determine if the threat is real.

Should they continue to spy after confirming the person is verified as not being a threat? Of course not, but all of the barbs aimed at Republicans and Democrats in this thread, in addition to the blanket statements made about what should and should not be done, all goes to again show that it's sheeple on /., not free thinking individuals.

Many of you appear to have been "programmed" to believe that any disagreement is wrong, and that any cultural differences should be eliminated entirely. Let me share something with you... It's these differences that drives societies.

Specifically, one of the browsers available is a 64-bit optimized version of FF 3.7 for Snow Leopard.

I finally installed it the other night, after eyeing it warily for the last month or so (as I worked through the latest 3.6 optimized builds). I finally installed it last night, and have to say that it's the biggest improvement to FF that I've came across.

It loads faster, uses less CPU & memory than previous builds, and it's mega fast. My impressions are that it's now as fast as Safari is on a Mac.

It's now my main browser. If you run Snow Leopard, you should check it out.
