Submission + - What has happened to Eric Snowden? 1

MouseTheLuckyDog writes: Some mysterious going ons on the web is causing people to ask if everything is alright with Eric Snowden. His last two tweets, since deleted, were a cryptic message "it's time" followed a few days later by a 64 character hex string. This combined with the recent move against torrents sites has the more sonpiratorially oriented people speculating that perhaps he is dead and various agencies are slamming torent sites to slow the spread of more Snowden leaks.

So what is up?

Submission + - DoJ closing porn stars bank accounts.

MouseTheLuckyDog writes: In a recent story on reason.com it was reported that the DoJ is closing down the bank accounts of porn stars.
Not knowing the site I googled around and found another site, the Guardian.

The story does not end there. It turns out that this is part of a larger scheme ( ironically ) called Operation Choke Point. Also reported in a Washington Post article that downplays the practice.

According to Cryptocoin news. There are thirty industries the DoJ is now targeteting:
*Ammunition Sales *Cable Box De-scramblers *Coin Dealers *Credit Card Schemes
*Credit Repair Services *Dating Services *Debt Consolidation Scams *Drug Paraphernalia
*Escort Services *Firearms Sales *Fireworks Sales *Get Rich Products *Government Grants
*Home-Based Charities *Life-Time Guarantees *Life-Time Memberships *Lottery Sales
*Mailing Lists/Personal Info *Money Transfer Networks *On-line Gambling *PayDay Loans
*Pharmaceutical Sales *Ponzi Schemes *Pornography *Pyramid-Type Sales *Racist Materials
*Surveillance Equipment *Telemarketing *Tobacco Sales *Travel Clubs

But more can be added. ( I notice alcohol sales is not on the list).

Submission + - "Hackers" interupt the Zimmerman trial.

MouseTheLuckyDog writes: Today during the George Zimmerman trial, an ex-professor of George Zimmerman's was allowed to testify via Skype while on vacation. When setting it up the prosecution didn't have the sense to blank the destination account. The result according to the smoking gun was a flood of callers to the desination account resulting in the connection being terminafed and cross examination being done on a cell phone in the wirness box.
Patents

Submission + - USPTO asks for input on software patents. (groklaw.net)

MouseTheLuckyDog writes: It seems that the patent office is reviewing it's policy on software patents and is asking for .feedback .

Nothing would please me more then to see the USPTO inundated with thousands of posts describing ways that software patents hurt the industry, but folks I ask for a bit of restraint in replying. When they get bombarded with posts saying things like "software patents sux" not only do they blow off that post, they also blow off other more legitimate posts. So please only submit if you do a clear, cogent, well thought out post. Thanks.
