You're on an amd64 box, right?

AFAIK the 128TiB you see is the top half of the total 48-bit addressable space, spanning from -128 TiB to 128 TiB (the whole address space is 64 bits or 16EiB, but only 48 bits are ever used in todays amd64 CPUs, the available space occupying the top and bottom 128TiB chunks). The lower half belongs to userspace, the upper one to the kernel.

I may be wrong but I guess somebody will correct me then.
