I see enough of that shit on Farcebook. Note, I've been staying away from /. for the same reason, the normals have taken over the site.

That's why they changed it from "Unidentified Flying Object" to "Unidentified Aerial Phenomena". The one I saw a half century ago was certainly not a space ship, unless Douglas Adams was right about scale, because it was smaller than a basketball. It was bright and fuzzy, rode next to my car for a couple of miles until I crossed a stream, when it zigged at 45 MPH at a right angle and followed the stream.

I wondered what it was for years before I learned about ball lightning, which is what it had to have been. My guess is ball lightning is a lot more common up there where the fighter jets play.

Really?

It is correct that the United Nations (as the Allies styled themselves later) did not give the USSR much chance after Finland, The Purges etc but the population appeared to have other ideas.

You also were paid in 'company scrip', money that could only be spent at the company store to purchase the shovels etc. needed for the mining. At inflated prices of course.
Company scrip was not legal tender and most countries ( in NZ it was the Wages Protection Act 1880~) enacted laws requiring payment in legal tender so that a modicum of competition could be allowed. Or at least envisioned.
See the movie Matewan (1987) for an example of a company town, based on historical events.

Not as hard as you think.

Here in NZ Google & Facebook are now booking contracts in the NZ tax jurisdiction rather than via Singapore as was done previously. This has been due to increasing comment by politicians, NZ businesses and consumers of Google, for example, having NZ$12M in revenue and paying NZ$365K in tax.

Also we now pay GST (our local VAT equivalent) on purchases from Steam.
