Comment DUH! (Score 1) 56

It's just like when things in a grocery store go down in price. Yeah, the price dropped, but the QUANTITY in the box went down. I never buy anything on Prime day...it's for suckers. They jack the price up a week or two before prime day, then discount it to make it look good.

Comment I miss vacuum tubes! (Score 1) 49

I use to repair tv's back in the mid-late 70's as a teenager through college. You didn't have to worry about someone stealing your "puny" 25" tv back then because those @#)^@$ things were HEAVY! Those huge CRT "picture tubes" weighed a TON! The glow of the old vacuum tubes in the back was kind of cool though. Although, you DID have to wait for the tv to WARM UP before you could use it.

Comment EV's just don't work for most (Score 1) 137

In small nations, yeah, EV's probably work! Plus in these small countries, they have available mass transit. In America, it take days to drive across the country. Some people live "out in the sticks" on farms or in the country and it takes time to get to a city. The lack of EV charging stations, along with the TIME IT TAKES to recharge is a problem. Batteries in the super cold winter is another thing. Until someone comes up with "The Flux Capacitor" and the "Fusion Reactor" from Back To The Future, hybrids are a better option than a full fledge EV. Personally I drive an ICE vehicle and probably will do so till I die.

Comment Blocks ad blocker apps (Score 2) 29

I've been using AdGuard on my phone & PC's for years to knock down the garbage. The PC version will obviously still load, but their app isn't on the Google Play Store. You have to download it from Adguard's website and load it. Google wants as many ads on their apps as possible to generate revenue even if people ignore the ads. It's all about generating MORE ads for them. If they were so worried about malware, their "google play protect" would weed them out!

Comment You don't need all that in a vehicle (Score 3, Interesting) 62

Your car is not a flipping home computer. Cameras, sensors, "infotainment" systems, huge tablet screens. All it does it drives up the price of the vehicle, not to mention the repair costs! Just bumping into another vehicle these days is a multi-thousand dollar repair, given all the sensors & cameras in vehicles today. malfunctioning phone-as-a-key functionality, a useless keyfob, a keycard that rarely worked quickly, constant phone connection issues, infotainment glitches and error messages.

Comment Blame part of this on environmentalist (Score 0) 119

Not all of the problem is environmentalist, but, we can't dig here, we can't drill there so we have to use outside sources for the things we need. Couple that with the greedy CEO/stockholders that want huge returns on their investments plus higher wages, move all of the jobs overseas.

Comment Useless liberal arts degrees? (Score 0) 109

Kids from the 80's to the 2020 era were pretty much all told you "have to have a four year college degree". They and/or their families rack up thousands of dollars in debt, for a degree that won't pay enough for them to move out of their parent's house. Too many liberal art degrees + not enough positions open to fill those degrees = low employment. But, on the other side, I see 2 year tech colleges hiring people by the time they graduate, and I see some manufacturing type places with "now hiring/hiring bonuses" signs.
