For you that might be true but for me Linux has been part of my desktop environment for almost 30 years now.

I don't care how popular something is but rather does the tool work for me. Does it lock up my information? Does it force me to conform to it or does it conform to my requirements? Does it spy on me? Does it force me to stop in order for it to run an update?

In KNP's case, it's thought the hackers managed to gain entry to the computer system by guessing an employee's password, after which they encrypted the company's data and locked its internal systems. KNP director Paul Abbott says he hasn't told the employee that their compromised password most likely led to the destruction of the company.

This would have to be the system administrator's password and even then I would say is was poor management if they had access to all.

This is a constant fight that I have with clients. Everything needs to be easy. Security is not a consideration. Then something happens and they look for answers that don't interfere with operations. Everyone else is to blame.

If the data is that important then it should have been secured behind more than one employees password.

Kids will still have access just like in the past and it won't be the tame stuff they are looking at now.

I've lost hope for the human race, we don't care to even see what is going on around us.

If parents can't protect kids then I can assure you the law and the government certainly will not no matter what law they pass.

Intellectually lazy is assuming that cuts will not affect services. the county where most deaths occurred was missing critical staff at the federal level not to mention that they were looking to others to finance their emergency response while the county downriver with their emergency response system had no deaths due to the floods.

I have yet to see an entity restored to it's original glory by the cut and burn in order to rebuild mentality. In this case we are still in the cut and burn faze and I don't have much confidence that their will be a serious rebuild faze. Pork barrels don't work that way.

We are already there. AI is the next step. Most people today can't think for themselves and have no interest in doing so. They choose options based on popularity and not their needs. The popular options are always the easiest which removes functionality and requires assistance or $ to make it fit their needs. We see this in our schools today from the subjects to the tools used.

Australia has shown that their politicians are just as stupid as the rest of the world. We pass a law pretending that we are doing something about it. We make is someone else's problem.

I'm not saying this because I agree with these companies. I avoid social media. It's just drivel and a fake and lazy method of keeping in touch.

I'm saying this because we are eliminating what works and pretending that we care and that we are doing something about it.

Smoke and mirrors. This will give more valuable information to online multinationals increasing the value of the information that they gather on us.

Children are resilient and they will access the material by other means. Do not kid yourself. The same way we didn't stop drugs, smoking, drinking,... we will not stop them from accessing social media. The means may lead them to more dangerous avenues.

Has "do as I say not as I do" ever worked in society?

A better solution would be to increase privacy rights of the individual. Limit the sharing of personal information and hold accountable and responsible organizations when they abuse. Limit the information collected to what is required to provide the service and only for the duration of providing the service. Information that will be sold needs to be identified to the user and all sharing of personal information must be disclosed in detail with whom prior to acquiring that information otherwise permission needs to be granted and not by a TOS.

What is making social media addictive is the value of the information that they can sell. They build the profile by having you show them what you like and dislike. The only way they can do that is by keeping you glued to the screen.

With Australia's law we have increased the value making it more lucrative to collect the data. The opposite of what the desired outcome was.
