This sounded wrong to me so I looked it up and it is in fact quite wrong. Either by tonnage produced or by dollars generated, bananas aren't even in the top 10 food crops. After rice, maize (corn) and wheat comes soybeans, potatoes, tomatoes, sugarcane, grapes, apples and onions.

If he had sold this info to the enemy, that might be true. He waited until after the bombing was already public knowledge to report on it so "secret" was already out at that point. When government employees leak information to journalists it is the leaker that (potentially) breaks the law, not the journalist.

Really? People with more than 5th grade vocabulary are artsy-fartsy New York types? Premium (PRE-me-um) means expensive and Mediocre (me-de-O-ker) means average (or as the kids say these days, "mid"). Though a reasonably intelligent person should have been able to guess that from the context even without knowing what those very common words meant.

There are supposed to be additional checks on large transactions which are meant to catch money-laundering, funding terrorism, drug cartels, etc. The fact that this enormous transfer went through even briefly tells you that these aren't working.
