Journal Luke727's Journal: Interesting theory on soccer's (un)popularity in U.S.A. 5
Here. Not sure if I agree with it or not, but I think I like it. My major problem with soccer (aside from the diving) is the keeping of time, or rather the lack of it. Maybe I am just too accustomed to other sports, but I find the laissez-faire approach used in soccer to be off-putting. Granted with a tight leash you end up with shit like the last 2 minutes of a NBA game lasting half an hour, but the alternative is living at the whim of some random referee's sense of time.

The US is not a poor country. Even welfare kids have several items of legit sports equipment, and the local schools and such will probably be stocked at least adequately.
Re: (Score:1)
Americans like (should I say expect) immediate gratification. An hour long game that ends in a 0-0 tie just isn't exiting enough. Just a guess though, not being a fan of watching sports myself.
