ever fly from Belfast to the uk during the troubles? There was always a lovely special branch officer waiting to ask you your reason for being in N. Ireland. Certainly this was the case arriving at Glasgow

Guys, I cannot believe that: it seems that russian hackers were able to http://software.techrepublic.com.com/download.aspx?docid=239052crack PGP !!! I'm using this program (PGP of course, not this cracker!) for years (from very old DOS version) and trusted it, so that shocked me to death :((( I'm not a crypro guru but as I understand they're using the distributed network (probably from KGB?

lazyron writes: I've been using Open Office a bit more lately, and got to thinking... This is much more like my current version of M$ Office than Office 2007 will be. Could it be time to try Open Office in the workplace? At least a little bit before Office 2007 is getting hammered down our throats? Are there any IT admins out there thinking about trying Open Office? Either with a few users or all of them?

Anonymous Coward writes: "I was talking with a co-worker today about how Google is so big, and how they make such great use of commodity hardware to do their business, and one of the topics that came up is where does Google's old hardware go ? Google has been around for many years now, and they have more machines than any sane person would own, and they are continually expanding. At some stage they must have to push out old equipment, either when it starts entering into its MTBF limits or it's been depreciated down. Searching (using Google of course) wasn't particularly fruitful. Has anyone seen where Google's hardware goes when it dies ?"

From the description: "Application Enhancer (APE) is affected by a local privilege escalation vulnerability which allows local users to gain root privileges." APE is the same software used to deploy fixes during "The Month of Apple Fixes" (MOAF). I know it's confusing but MOAB came first and MOAF was a developer's answer to the bugs — after all, the purpose of posting bugs is to have them identified, confirmed and eradicated. CNet is running a story on it which talks about potential remote root access by an intruder. Note that this is third party software as all of the bugs seem to be stemming from. I guess Apple has made a fairly secure system but they can't expect all third party developers to follow the same rigorous standards. Is it even feasible to claim a 'perfect' security scheme if one of the caveats is allowing third party software to be developed for your system?"
