Journal Le Marteau's Journal: Ask the subset: how to batch convert iTunes to MP3? 4
I have a friend who wants to convert thousands of her iTunes files to MP3. Do you know of a (hopefully free) way to convert the files as a batch?

System checkpoint complete.
Any specific reason? (Score:2)
My suggestion would be to rerip as many of the tracks as possible from CDs, and then pirate the rest.

As far as I know, the best you can hope for is to convert AAC tracks to analog audio, then re-encode to MP3. Some time back I tried to find an AAC decrypter, but couldn't find anything that worked with tracks encoded by iTunes 6 or higher.
Conceivably, you could use something like this to do it. However, you would take a hit on sound quality. And I'm not sure the command line tools exist to decode an AAC file. Maybe it could be done with AppleScript?
With... iTunes... (Score:1)
Provided you talk about non-DRM AAC files.... Simply do it with iTunes! Imagine that all your files in iTunes are AAC and you want them in MP3, start iTunes, then select the complete music library (Ctrl-A in Library/Music). Go to: "Advanced" -> "Convert to MP3".
If it's not all the files, make a playlist that contains the files you want to convert and do the same procedure.
If those AAC files are from the iTunes store and DRM encumbred (the Plus files are just fine), you first have to unprotect them.
