Comment Re:Three most disappointing laws of science (Score 1) 102

We can and have observed quantum spooky action at a distance at sufficient remove (entanglement apparatus synched between the ISS and the opposite side of the Earth) to confirm that states remain in synch outside of the entangled particles' light cone.

At the moment, this can only be used to know specific random remote information, and thus is not useful for communication in practical terms. Could someone eventually work out a way to coerce entangled particles into a meaningful behaviour pattern though? Not yet, but this is hardly a mature field.

Comment Re:Not a singularity? (Score 1) 163

I mean, we've directly observed light being bent by gravity at every opportunity, and measured the slight-but-as-predicted time & mass dilation between Earth's surface and the ISS speeding by at .000027c. Some details remain opaque to us sure, and there is definitely more to the story than we know but the broad strokes consistently match the universe around us better than anything else.

I'd say the better mirrorless eyepiece viewfinders are there now. They're low-enough latency to satisfy action/sports shooters, detailed-enough for macro & bird people to get their focus right, and the ability to see not only the framing but exposure and color that the camera is actually recording is a huge benefit.

The full-frame R-bodies let you switch to APS-C cropped mode when mounting EF-S lenses via the EF->RF adapter, if you're wanting to ease into full-frame without replacing all your lenses at once. APS-C mode resolution is roughly FullFrameResolution/2.56, still plenty of pixels.

Comment Orb weavers are cool. (Score 1) 53

We have similar native orb beavers here in MO. They are beautiful to be honest. They're a bit of a nuisance it you're going hiking while they're active, since they love to spin their huge webs across the gaps between trees that trails provide.

I once woke up to find one had built a web across the sliding door to my apartment's balcony. I let her have the balcony for the couple weeks she lived and took tons of close-up photos through the glass. Amazing stuff.

I don't know enough about the gas facility target to judge its validity as a target. If it is a piece of energy or fuel infrastructure supporting the invasion though (Nogir is within a day's drive of Rostov-on-Don or Sebastopol), sabotaging it is more guerilla warfare or spec ops than it is terrorism. Anonymous engaging in sabotage like this rather than goofing around harassing Klansman or Scientologists is astonishing though. "For great justice!" takes on new meaning when they're slowing down Belorussian rail systems carrying fuel, tanks, etc. to the front.

F-35's cost six to seven times what a Reaper does, and their cost per flight-hour is TEN TIMES that of a Reaper.

I'm not aware of a US drone outfitted with interceptor role missiles like Sidewinders or AMRAAM. Such a thing could be done though.

Could a hotshot pilot in a latest-generation superiority fighter defeat even half his plane's cost in dedicated interceptor drones?

How many replacements for the dead pilot are available?

I wonder if they're going to bust every recording studio and concert venue in the state as well, because ain't no studio Sound Engineer or Front of House Engineer passed the exam. They might - MIGHT - be members of the Audio Engineering Society, but most are not. The AES is mostly academics and Electrical Engineers who work for manufacturers. The most successful might be members of the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences, but most are not.

The terms are a hold over from the days when audio production systems were mostly one-off custom installs designed and maintained by the facility's Engineer, but everyone still uses them. Terms like "recordist" have been floated as alternatives, but have not gained traction.
