Journal Kris_J's Journal: Back from the dead 2

The JE is being entered from an old Sharp Actius 150 ultralight laptop connected to my new wireless network. With the extra capacity battery, but given the age of both batteries, I can probably surf wirelessly for about four hours at a time. Repair was cheap, but not 100% successful, but the problems were all power related so the tricky bits (OS, et al) are all safe. At least it charges more often than not now.

  • I have a couple old laptops that don't have the power to... well, they do. I just haven't cared to grab an ethernet PC card to have them updated. Running windows 95 and all, it won't be easy or useful. It will be easy, on second thought. I've just stopped taking them seriously because they lack CD drives and nothing new can be installed on them because of low hard drive space. :)
    Ditto for my newer Mac.
    • Yeah, there's no point in trying this with anything less than Win98SE -- unless you know your way 'round a nice slim Linux distro. Even Win98 can't handle a PCMCIA WiFi adapter (I had to upgrade my mother's laptop to give her a card -- bonus, it shuts down properly almost every time now). But a 266MMX with 64MB of RAM is more than enough to run a browser and, as I will do this evening, a terminal package to a server with uMoria.
