I got turned into road pizza on June 18th. I was riding my mountain bike out to a set of trails that I frequent for some photography opportunities, and not even a half-mile from my house, some drunkard in a '91 Chevy pickup veers from the other side of the street, crosses the yellow line, hops the curb and slams into me.

Total damage: Right femur now has a permanent addition, a titanium rod inside. Right wrist is held together with hundreds of pins and screws as it's been shattered. Fractured T12 in my spine. Contusions across my lungs. Also, my camera took a beating, but it survived long enough for me to fill up my 128 meg SD card one last time with random pics, then it died on me.

Man, I thought I was in bad shape before.

  • Sorry to hear about that... When you get better, make sure that asshole pays for it.
  • Something similar happened to my brother about a dozen years ago. He didn't have any spinal injuries, but one of his knees was damaged fairly badly. Fortunately, he recovered completely.
