Comment A prime case for Solid (Score 1) 105

Sir Tim Berners Lee's new proposal called Solid [https://ancillary-proxy.atarimworker.io?url=https%3A%2F%2Fsolid.inrupt.com%2F] would be a prime choice for managing the access to your data that companies like IBM have for their scanning. Fine grained access to share and audit data in a decentralised distributed network using blockchain.

There's plenty of fakes around as the marketing peeps aren't always happy with the results and take the "no one will care anyway" approach. Heck I'd almost wager that some of the stills and maybe even a video or two from the Mars missions, Moon landing and Hubble may have been tweaked or re-rendered to give a better appearance.

Wow this guy has been an Anonymous Coward for a fair while now. You'd think with something so great as APK Hosts File Engine 2.0++ they'd be posting using an actual URL and not putting blanks into it and using a real name or business details. I question the pudding he's eating ;)

It reminds me of a really good bit of humor...

"In the beginning was the Plan.
And then came the Assumptions.
And the Assumptions were without form.
And darkness was upon the face of the Workers.
And they spoke among themselves, saying, "It is a crock of shit, and it stinketh."
And the workers went unto their Supervisors and said, "It is a pail of dung, and none may abide the odour thereof."
And the Supervisors went unto their Managers, saying, "It is a container of excrement, and it is very strong, such that none may abide by it."
And the Managers went unto their Directors, saying, "It is a vessel of fertiliser, and none may abide its strength."
And the Directors spoke amongst themselves, saying one to another, "It contains that which aids plant growth, and it is very strong."
And the Directors then went onto the Vice Presidents, saying unto them, "It promotes growth and is very powerful."
And the Vice Presidents went unto the President, saying unto him, "This new plan will actively promote the growth and vigour of the company; with powerful effects."
And the President looked upon the Plan, and saw that it was good.
And the Plan became Policy.
This is How Shit Happens."

Surely we should be putting some scavenging satellites into low orbit to suck up all this free CO2, Methane and Nitrous Oxide and firing it back down to earth in canisters or better yet make the beer in orbit add CO2 and Nitrous Oxide send that down instead and market it as Orbit or Reentry or Touchdown or something :P

And insurance policies that have a clause that states if your chance of dying while in hospital is greater than 50% then there's no cover for treatments only death. The good, perhaps the cost of the cover goes down.

Isn't this just like Zeitgeist, Gnome Activity Journal or Unity Dash? I've been using Ubuntu on the desktop for a number of years now and using Zeitgeist, Zeitgeist Explorer, Gnome Activity Journal and more recently Unity Dash to look at my document and application history and context. These aren't my only "go to" methods for finding historical activity on my Linux system but they are nicely integrated and useful at times. I'm pretty sure that Zeitgeist has been around since before 2008 and Gnome Activity Journal came in around 2009 with Gnome 3.0 and then Unity around 2011?

This could be an indication of the pressure (KPIs) to release code and "features" before they've been fully tested or even approved. With all this type of technology quickly becoming the future there needs to be some serious work "not Spectre like work" but serious work done making sure that all phases of the workflows creating systems "that have the potential to cause human casualty or death" are secure and error free. There should never be a false positive option in these systems. If it's not 100% certain that it's a Rimmer then avoid or stop.
